Ursa Major is seeking Financial Analyst I that supports the financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and analysis activities of the Solid Missile Systems business unit. This entry-level role partners with program management, engineering, operations, contracts, and accounting to help monitor program financial performance, support budgeting activities, and ensure compliance with government contracting requirements. The analyst develops foundational knowledge of aerospace and defense financial practices, including cost accounting, indirect rates, project reporting, and contract financial management.

This position is designed to provide significant professional growth and development opportunities through hands-on experience, cross-functional collaboration, and increasing responsibility. The Financial Analyst I will gain exposure to a broad range of finance disciplines—including financial planning and analysis (FP&A), program finance, government contracting, manufacturing operations, and strategic business planning—while building the technical and analytical skills necessary for career advancement. Through mentorship, training, and participation in key business initiatives, successful candidates will have a defined path toward progression into Financial Analyst II, Senior Financial Analyst, and future finance leadership roles.

The position level may be adjusted based on the selected candidate's qualifications, experience, and demonstrated capabilities. Candidates with additional relevant experience may be considered for a higher-level Financial Analyst position.

This is a hybrid position based out of our Longmont, Colorado facility 2-3-days per week. 

Reports To: FP&A Manager

Responsibilities:

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Support monthly forecasting, budgeting, annual operating plan (AOP) activities, and financial reporting.
  • Analyze financial results and provide variance analysis and recommendations to management.

Program Financial Support

  • Monitor the financial performance of assigned programs, including revenue, costs, margins, and Estimate at Completion (EAC) forecasts.
  • Partner with Program Managers to identify financial risks and opportunities.

Government Contract Compliance

  • Support financial reporting and compliance for government and commercial contracts while adhering to company policies and applicable regulations.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Assist with labor planning, operating expense forecasting, capital investment tracking, and other planning activities.

Financial Analysis

  • Develop financial models, dashboards, and ad hoc analyses to support business decisions and operational improvements.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Maintain financial reporting tools and support continuous improvement of finance processes, reporting, and systems.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 0-2+ years of professional work experience, additional experience will be considered.
  • A demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and drive solutions.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Communicate directly and effectively with all levels of management
  • The sensitive nature of this position requires a high level of maturity, tact and diplomacy without sacrificing authentic and meaningful information.

Desired Experience:

  • Previous experience in the aerospace and defense industry or a government contracting environment is preferred but not required.
  • Candidates with experience supporting manufacturing, engineering, or other highly regulated industries are also encouraged to apply.
  • Experience using Odoo or other ERP software preferred.
  • Advanced degree is preferred; MBA or MSF is most desirable.


Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $70,000 - $80,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. What we can’t quantify for you are the exciting challenges, supportive team, and amazing culture we enjoy.
