Forward Deployed AI Engineer

The Field Engineering organization is a fast-paced, entrepreneurial team whose focus is bridging the gap between MongoDB official database products and the reality of our services organizations who are “boots on the ground” and often rely upon quickly created tools to assist customers with modernizing their application code and architectures. The sort of projects we work on are varied, but include a combination of research, proof of concept, and product development. Since we focus on GenAI, this includes working with LLMs, parsing tools, agentic frameworks, etc. Our tools are immediately usable, experimented on, and then refined by a broad engineering team worldwide.

We seek motivated and talented individuals to help us build the next-generation database platform. As a Forward Deployed AI Engineer you will work directly with MongoDB’s product managers, user experience designers, and software engineers. You will be fully integrated into the team, helping to understand and analyze users’ needs and pain points, and advocating on their behalf. You will mine various data sources, and discuss technical constraints with engineers and designers to create new product requirements and experiences. You will also refine and communicate the product strategy to relevant stakeholders.

What we are looking for in you

• Technical skills: You should be comfortable diving into design and code, particularly Python and Java. You must be able to learn from existing examples, explore APIs, triage bugs, and speak on any of the technical aspects of the tools in your portfolio.
• Communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Curiosity and creativity. You have a desire to learn and experiment; you are a self-starter and thrive in ambiguity. Hacker mindset.
• 1-3 years of experience in software engineering.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States. Company sponsorship may be available for eligible candidates applying for certain roles.
• Strong desire and experience working with generative AI tools: Devin, Copilot, Lovable, Bolt.new, Claude Code, Prefect, Langflow–ideally all of the above.
• Speed. GenerativeAI can do some tasks more than 800x faster than a human, and working with them requires quick context switching, a sharp eye, and an enthusiasm for iteration.
