Overview: Kindroid makes virtual people that enrich real people's lives. Since launch, we've been the joybringer for millions of people, who've created and customized their unique virtual companion with custom backstories, memories, appearances, and voices. We're growing explosively, having grown from 0 to $9M retentive ARR. We're a lean, 5-person team and are already profitable. We've been featured on NYT, WSJ, New Yorker, and Business Insider, and are backed by some of the best investors in Silicon Valley.

We are looking for a Founding Designer to shape the future of Kindroid. As our first dedicated design hire, you will be at the core of our product, user experience, and growth. You'll be instrumental in translating user needs and behaviors into a friendly, intuitive, and deeply engaging experience for a product people already love and use for hours every day. This is a role for someone who wants to do more than just design as you'll be a key voice in our product strategy and direction.

The ideal candidate is a builder and a user-first thinker, someone with a demonstrated history of translating complex ideas into simple, elegant, and effective interfaces. Our ideal teammate is unreasonably obsessive, over pixels, user journeys, and the little details that create magical experiences. You'll have direct and immediate impact on product decisions and the daily lives of our users from day one.

What You'll Do:

  • Take full ownership of Kindroid's user experience and interface design, from high-level product strategy to hands-on UI/UX work for new features.

  • Engage directly with our passionate user base through interviews, feedback sessions, and data analysis to deeply understand their needs and motivations.

  • Rapidly prototype and iterate on new features and interactions, creating everything from wireframes and user flows to high-fidelity, polished mockups.

  • Collaborate closely with our engineers to ensure your designs are implemented to the highest standard, making pragmatic trade-offs when necessary.

  • Think systematically to build and maintain a design system that ensures a cohesive and friendly experience as we scale.

  • Contribute to growth initiatives by designing and analyzing experiments that improve the user journey, from onboarding to daily engagement.

Core Requirements:

  • A strong portfolio showcasing your work on consumer-facing products, demonstrating exceptional UI/UX skills and a user-centered design process

  • Proven ability to think from the user's perspective first and create intuitive, accessible, and friendly interfaces

  • Maniacal obsession with quality and the willingness to go all-in on creating the best possible user experience

  • Track record of creative problem-solving and resourceful execution

  • Very strong ambition and drive to learn fast

  • Fluency with modern design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma)

  • Fluency with using AI to make you more efficient and creative

Preferred / What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Some experience with front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React) and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers

  • Experience working on consumer products that people love, especially in social, gaming, or AI spaces

  • A rigorous, experimental mindset and experience with A/B testing or growth-focused design work

  • History of entrepreneurial projects or early-stage startup experience

This role is perfect for someone who wants to shape a fast-growing product at the intersection of AI and human connection. You'll have autonomy to identify opportunities and execute on them—whether that means redesigning core flows, prototyping new interactions, running design experiments, or defining the visual language of a product millions of people use daily.

The team is currently remote but will likely move to in-person hybrid in the Bay Area—residing in or relocating to California is strongly preferred.
