Founding Engineer

Primary is a seed-stage venture capital firm dedicated to delivering exceptional support to the founders of transformational businesses. With over $1B under management and the largest portfolio impact team of any seed investor, Primary has helped its companies achieve an industry-best seed-to-A graduation rate. We're now betting early on AI to redefine what’s possible at a venture fund.

We are currently building PrimaryOS, a system of agents and tools to accelerate incubation and investing are now scaling the team to help productionalize our vision and create alpha for everything we do.

We will be a small, dedicated product team within Primary focused on building our product to bring AI to the core workflows of venture capital. The team works across the entire firm, partnering directly with investors and operators to identify high-leverage use cases where intelligent systems can create compounding advantages. Examples of what we build include multi-agent systems for ideation, sourcing, diligence, and founder engagement. The work sits at the intersection of applied AI, data infrastructure, and venture operations. It is highly collaborative, experimental, and fast-moving.

We are looking for a Founding Engineer to architect and build PrimaryOS from the ground up. This is the first engineering hire on the team and a foundational role for someone who wants to shape how a modern venture firm operates. You will work closely with the Labs and investment teams to design, build, and iterate on intelligent systems that drive meaningful impact. We see this position evolving into a CTO-level leadership role as the product scales and the team grows.

• Architect and build the product with technical ownership

• Develop backend infrastructure for model orchestration, data ingestion, and API integration

• Design evaluation loops that measure and improve the quality and accuracy of agent and model outputs

• Establish engineering practices that ensure reliability, scalability, and maintainability

• Collaborate directly with firm leadership to identify opportunities where AI can meaningfully enhance execution and insight

• Experience: 3–5 years of relevant engineering experience, ideally building intelligent or data-driven products

• Independent: You are comfortable owning architecture, prioritization, and iteration from prototype to production

• System thinker: You understand how information flows through an organization and how to design technology that scales those interactions

• Curious and motivated: You are excited by the challenge of applying AI to real operational problems and thrive in fast-moving, high-ownership environments

• Location: Based in New York City and able to work from the Primary office at least three days a week
