The Founding Engineer will manage end-to-end projects, blending product engineering and AI, focusing on impactful solutions using various technologies.
We're building the AI research desk for hedge funds. We host conversations that drive public markets—connecting portfolio managers and analysts who manage billions to share insights on the companies they know best.
Trata is backed by Y Combinator, FCVC (higher unicorn rate than YC and Sequoia), Walter Kortschak (prev. CIO of SignalFire, Managing Partner at Summit Partners), Pioneer Fund, Seaplane Ventures, and 10+ hedge funds.
What you'll be doing
You'll own projects end-to-end—from idea to shipped and in customers' hands. The focus is on impact: what you build should move the business and solve real problems for our users. Technical quality matters, but in service of those goals.
The work is a mix of product engineering and AI. On the product side: React frontends, FastAPI services, Postgres, Redis, AWS (via Terraform), etc.—the fundamentals matter. On the AI side: we build with the latest models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and ship fast when new tools drop. Our voice agent is one example—AI is embedded throughout our product and internal workflows.
You'll work directly with the CEO, CTO, and every team member. We're a team of 4, so there's no hierarchy to navigate. You'll ship code on day one.
Tech Stack
- Frontend: Next.js, React, TypeScript
- Backend: FastAPI, Python
- Database: Postgres, Redis, Pinecone, Algolia
- Infrastructure: AWS, Terraform, Vercel
- AI: OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Deepgram, Cartesia, ElevenLabs, MiniMax, Pipecat
Who we're looking for
- 1-4 years of experience (though what you've built matters more than years)
- You've shipped something—side projects, startups, whatever. We want to see that you can take something from zero to one
- Strong fundamentals, fast learner—you pick up new tools and technologies quickly
- Good judgment on when to move fast and iterate vs. when to get it right from day one
- Scrappy, autonomous, high standards for yourself and your work
- Based in NYC or willing to relocate—we work in-person
Compensation & Perks
- $150-200k base + meaningful equity
- Health, vision, and dental insurance
