First engineering hire at an early-stage B2B MarTech startup. Build and extend a Rails application, integrate LLMs and AI services, design data pipelines and schema extraction, develop browser extensions and automation, make infrastructure and architecture decisions, and shape engineering culture and hiring.

About Us

We're a B2B MarTech company building tools that sit at the intersection of marketing automation, AI, and data infrastructure. The founding team has been in this space as operators, not observers. We know the problems because we've lived them, and now we're building the future for marketers.

We're early, funded, and moving fast.

The Role

You'll be our first engineering hire. That means there's no legacy codebase to untangle, no layers of process to navigate, and no one to hand things off to. You'll work directly with the founders, ship real product, and have an outsized impact on what we build and how we build it.

But this isn't just about code. As the first engineer, you'll shape the engineering culture from day one: how we work, how we ship, how we make technical decisions, and eventually, how we hire and grow the team. You'll have a direct hand in building the organization, not just the product.

This is a full-stack role in the truest sense. On any given week you might be:

  • Building and extending our Rails application: models, APIs, background jobs, the works

  • Integrating with LLMs and AI services: prompt engineering, model evaluation, orchestration

  • Designing and implementing data pipelines that ingest, transform, and serve marketing data at scale

  • Working on schema generation and structured data extraction

  • Building browser extensions and Chrome automation tooling

  • Making infrastructure and architecture decisions that will define the stack for years

  • Helping define engineering practices, tooling, and workflows as we grow

  • Interviewing and onboarding future engineers as we scale the team

We're a Rails-heavy shop and expect you to be deeply comfortable there. But this isn't a "Rails and nothing else" role as you'll need to be curious and capable across the stack.

What We're Looking For

You're a builder. Whether you’ve shipped at a startup, on a side project, or in open source. You care more about what works than what looks good on paper. You default to action and iterate quickly.

You're technically strong. Deep experience with Ruby on Rails is non-negotiable. Strong JavaScript chops. You've worked with databases, background processing, APIs, and have opinions about how to structure a growing codebase. Experience with AI/ML integration, data pipelines, or browser extension development is a strong plus.

You thrive in ambiguity. At this stage, the roadmap is a living thing. You're comfortable picking up context fast, making decisions with incomplete information, and adjusting course when you learn something new.

You care about the team, not just the tech. You've seen what good engineering culture looks like and what bad looks like. You have opinions on how teams should work, how to keep things lightweight without being chaotic, and how to raise the bar when it's time to hire. You want to help build an organization you'd want to work at.

You're a good human. We're a small team and plan to stay thoughtful about who we bring in. We value directness, humility, and people who make the team better….not just code. No jerks, no egos, no politics.

Tech Stack
  • Backend: Ruby on Rails

  • Frontend: JavaScript (specific framework TBD / evolving)

  • AI: LLM integrations, prompt engineering, model orchestration

  • Data: Pipelines, schema generation, structured extraction

  • Browser: Chrome extensions, browser automation

  • Infra: Cloud-hosted (specifics evolving with the product)

What We Offer
  • Ground-floor equity in a venture-backed company with experienced founders

  • Competitive salary

  • Direct access to and collaboration with the founding team

  • Real ownership over technical decisions, architecture, and engineering culture

  • The chance to build both a product and a team from scratch

  • A team that respects your time, your craft, and your autonomy

How to Apply

Skip the cover letter. Send us something that shows how you think and what you've built whether it’s a GitHub profile, a side project, a technical write-up, a product you shipped. We care about the work.
