Pumpkin is looking for a seasoned Freelance Content Editor to join our passionate, pet-loving blog team. As one of the fastest growing pet insurance brands and pet care companies in the US, Pumpkin is dedicated to providing educational content that empowers pet parents to be better guardians of their pet’s health and well-being. In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in elevating the quality, consistency, and authority of our brand voice across a range of articles and topics. If you're a meticulous editor with a strong command of SEO, excellent communication & project management skills, and a genuine passion for pets and their health, we'd love to hear from you! This is a remote position, but flexibility to travel to the NYC office once or twice a quarter would be a plus

What You'll Do:

• Edit and publish 7-10 new blog articles on Wordpress each week 
• Collaborate with our in-house editorial content writer and freelance contributors to copy edit and refine new articles and refreshes, ensuring clarity, accuracy, adherence to brand editorial guidelines, and error-free content
• Conduct thorough fact-checking to verify the accuracy of information and maintain Pumpkin’s reputation as a trusted source for pet care advice
• Implement SEO best practices to optimize articles for target keywords, driving organic traffic and improving search engine rankings
• Help source cover photos & in-line imagery to visually enhance article content
• Manage content calendars, timelines, and legal reviews, ensuring timely publication of articles that align with editorial schedules
• Utilize project management tools to streamline workflows and enhance team collaboration
• Post articles on WordPress, formatting content for optimal readability and user experience

What We're Looking For:

• Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Media/Communications, or a related field 
• 3+ years of professional experience in content editing for a reputable online publication, content agency, or brand blog / content platform
• Online portfolio with relevant clips showcasing your editing expertise & versatility
• Strong copy editing skills with an impeccable eye for detail and grammar
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide constructive feedback to writers
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality standards
• Strong understanding of SEO strategies and familiarity with keyword research & optimization tools, such as SEMRush, Ahrefs, Google Keyword Planner, and Clearscope
• Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and WordPress publishing; experience with AI tools for content creation and editing a plus
• Experience with project management tools, such as Monday.com 

Bonus Points:

• Prior knowledge/experience in the pet care, animal health, or insurance space

The compensation for this position ranges from $30.00-$50.00 (hourly). Compensation may vary outside the listed range, based on a number of factors including but not limited to location, qualifications, performance, skills, and experience.
