As an engineer at Ecosia, you will work with a recently formed cross-functional team to support our marketing efforts by improving communication channels with our users, from acquisition to retention. We want candidates with a JavaScript background who can manage their own tasks and work closely with our marketing team. Day-to-day, you will dive deep into our frontend (including backend-of-the-frontend) tech stack, improving the capabilities of our user engagement platform (Braze), creating landing pages, building emails, improving conversion tracking, and more.

Do you want to become part of a great team, shape a product used by millions of users daily, and help regenerate our ecosystem? Join us!

Your chance to contribute meaningfully
  • Build, test, and deploy different products and integrations inside Ecosia products (client and server-side).

  • Contribute to a range of marketing needs, including CRM and analytics tooling integration, email, notifications, and other communication touch points with our users.

  • Collaborate with engineers from different teams, sharing what you know and learning from their experience.

Your areas of knowledge and proficiency
  • You have experience building and deploying production code in JavaScript.

  • You have experience in different testing methodologies.

  • You are motivated to dive deep technically, learn and apply best practices, and grow professionally.

  • You like to work collaboratively with Product, Design, Marketing, and other engineers.

  • You can communicate clearly in written and spoken English.

Optional Advantages:

  • Experience with:

    • Marketing conversion tracking technologies, e.g., Google Tag Manager.

    • Marketing content tools, e.g., Braze, HubSpot.

    • Typescript and static site generators, in Vue.js or equivalent (e.g., React).

Process:
  • Call with our Talent Partner (⏱️ 20-30')

  • Meeting the Hiring Manager and Product Lead (⏱️ 45-60')

  • Pair programming with a couple of engineers (⏱️ <75')

Technology stack (marketing)
  • Frontend: Vue.js, JavaScript, TypeScript

  • Backend: Node.js

  • SDKs: Braze, HubSpot

We don’t expect you to have experience with all of the above, but if you’re curious to learn and pair across these technologies, this could be a good match!

Technology stack (other)
  • Backend: Cloudflare Workers, Go or Python services using REST and gRPC

  • Infrastructure: Cloudflare, AWS, Kubernetes (EKS), and Terraform

  • Tooling: Sentry, Loki, Prometheus, and Grafana for observability, Snowplow, GitHub, and CircleCI for our CI/CD
