Full Stack Developer

Afficiency is a rapidly growing Insurtech startup whose mission is to provide life insurance to everyone on the platforms they already trust. Located in NYC, we design life insurance products that can be purchased entirely digitally and can be easily embedded into distribution platforms or with agents who sell insurance. We are looking for a versatile AI Full Stack Engineer with strong prompt engineering expertise and a business-oriented mindset to join our team. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, AI-powered development, and business strategy. You will collaborate directly with business product leaders to design, build, and ship end-to-end web and mobile applications using cutting-edge AI development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and similar platforms. 

The ideal candidate is not just a technically proficient developer but a strategic thinker who understands how technology translates into business value. You will be responsible for rapidly prototyping, iterating, and delivering production-grade applications that solve real business problems—leveraging AI-assisted coding to dramatically accelerate the development lifecycle. 

Responsibilities

AI-Powered Full Stack Development 

• Design, develop, and deploy end-to-end web and mobile applications using modern frameworks (React, Next.js, Node.js, Python/Django, or similar). 

• Leverage AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, etc.) to accelerate coding, debugging, testing, and deployment workflows. 

• Build responsive, accessible, and performant user interfaces with seamless backend API integrations. 

• Implement cloud-native architectures on Azure, AWS, or GCP with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code. 

Prompt Engineering & AI Integration 

• Craft, optimize, and maintain sophisticated prompts and prompt chains for large language models (LLMs) to power conversational interfaces, automation workflows, and intelligent features. 

• Integrate AI/ML capabilities into applications, including natural language processing, content generation, data extraction, and decision support systems. 

• Evaluate, benchmark, and select appropriate AI models and APIs for specific business use cases. 

• Develop and maintain prompt libraries, templates, and best practices documentation for the engineering team. 

Business Collaboration & Product Delivery 

• Partner directly with business product leaders, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions. 

• Participate in product discovery, roadmap planning, and sprint ceremonies to align engineering output with business objectives. 

• Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and provide data-driven recommendations on technology choices. 

• Rapidly prototype and iterate on concepts to validate product-market fit and user experience hypotheses. 

Quality, Security & Best Practices 

• Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code with comprehensive test coverage (unit, integration, E2E). 

• Implement security best practices including authentication (OAuth2, SSO), data encryption, and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA as applicable). 

• Conduct code reviews, mentor junior developers, and contribute to engineering culture and standards. 

• Proven full‑stack engineering experience delivering and maintaining production‑grade applications. 

• Expertise in modern frontend frameworks such as React, Next.js, Vue, or Angular. 

• Strong backend development skills using Node.js, Python, Java, or Go. 

• Practical experience with AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor). 

• Hands‑on experience integrating LLMs, prompt engineering, and building AI‑driven product features. 

• Cloud proficiency—Azure preferred—covering serverless services, SQL/NoSQL databases, and DevOps workflows. 

• Deep understanding of REST APIs, GraphQL, microservices, and event‑driven architectures. 

• Excellent communication skills and ability to translate business requirements into technical deliverables. 

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent professional experience. 

• Preferred: background with Microsoft ecosystem (Azure AI, Power Platform, Copilot Studio), SaaS/B2B products, data/ETL platforms, mobile development, security frameworks, startup environments, or business certifications (MBA/PM). 

• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex data pipeline issues. 

• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. 

• Knowledge of data privacy and security best practices. 

• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes is a plus. 

• Certifications in relevant technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics - Specialty) are advantageous.
