As a GenAI Biosecurity Expert, you will play a critical role in evaluating and strengthening the safety guardrails of Generative AI systems. You will combine deep subject-matter expertise in the biological sciences with hands-on prompt research, red-teaming, and model pairing to identify dual-use risks, prevent the proliferation of biological threats, and ensure AI outputs adhere to strict biosecurity and biosafety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct hands-on adversarial red-teaming and risk evaluations to stress-test AI models against biological vulnerabilities, translating domain expertise and regulatory standards into actionable feedback for model safety alignment.
Stay current on emerging biotechnology research, biological threat vectors, and biosecurity governance to continually update safety benchmarks.
RequirementsRequirements
- Location: Must be located in and authorized to work within the United States (excluding Illinois and Texas).
- Education: Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Virology, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, or a closely related biological field (Master’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience considered).
- Subject-Matter Expertise: Demonstrated hands-on or research experience with biological risk assessment, biosafety practices, or biosecurity governance.
- AI Safety Aptitude: Strong enthusiasm and comfort with hands-on prompt engineering, red-teaming, and evaluating LLM outputs.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent scientific rigor, attention to detail, and ability to distinguish safe educational context from actionable dual-use risk.
- Communication: Ability to articulate complex scientific risks clearly to technical AI safety and alignment teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of AI prompt engineering concepts and practices, including adversarial prompt writing
- Familiarity with current frontier AI safety benchmarks, evaluation frameworks, and ethical guidelines for GenAI.
- Expertise in one or more of the following biological risk areas:
- Pathogen Analysis & Viromics: Deep understanding of high-consequence pathogens (e.g., Ebola, Smallpox, Influenza) and host-pathogen interactions.
- Dual-Use Biotech & Genetic Modification: Hands-on or theoretical familiarity with CRISPR, synthetic biology, gene editing hazards, and gain-of-function research.
- Toxin Research & Biomanufacturing: Practical knowledge of DNA/RNA synthesis screening protocols, toxin research, and bioreactor scale-up risks.
The salary range for this role is $150K - $178K - Range may vary based on experience. Salary at the time of offer will be commensurate with experience.
