The Opportunity
This will be a 12‑week (40 hours per week) internship starting on June 8th, 2026.
This Summer GIS Development Intern will collaborate with CentralSquare's GIS development team to support Public Safety GIS products used by agencies nationwide. The intern will work on real‑world projects involving geospatial data processing, basemap development, and quality assurance for enterprise GIS applications.
As part of this role, the intern will engage in many aspects of GIS development and testing, including:
- Generating sample floor plan data by digitizing PDFs into vector data
- Building and maintaining basemaps for Public Safety applications
- Performing quality assurance (QA) for GIS products, including exploratory and regression testing
- Exploring the use of AI tools to generate integration tests for GIS products
- Working with geospatial data formats, coordinate systems, and spatial references
- Documenting workflows, test results, and data standards
- Collaborating with developers, QA, and product team members in an agile environment
The intern will work in a collaborative environment the vast majority of the time, with regular guidance from their manager and team, along with some independent work. This intern will also be expected to continue to grow their GIS and technical skills to improve their productivity throughout the summer.
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Geospatial Science, Computer Science, or a related field
- Coursework or project experience with GIS concepts (coordinate systems, spatial data, map projections)
- Familiarity with ESRI ArcGIS products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or ArcGIS Server) is a plus
- Experience with data digitization or vectorization workflows is a plus
- Familiarity with programming or scripting (C#, Python, JavaScript) is a plus
- Familiarity with AI/ML tools or test automation concepts is a plus
- Familiarity with Git and version control is a plus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Availability to work 40 hours per week during the summer
