Role Overview
The Group Director, Growth Audiences serves as a strategic leader dedicated to driving audience-led growth for key client accounts. This role owns the development and ongoing optimization of audience systems that connect business challenges to actionable planning and measurement decisions, translating insights into refined media strategies that deliver measurable business outcomes.
This individual is both a trusted client advisor and a strategic problem-solver, accountable for ensuring audience thinking shows up as clear, differentiated experience and media choices. The role sits at the intersection of strategy, media, data, and analytics, with a strong emphasis on iterative optimization and accountability to client business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Audience System Development
Own the development of growth audiences for assigned accounts, identifying the set of audiences (1P and 3P) needed to solve specific client business challenges and growth objectives.
Establish clear audience definitions, priorities, and signal frameworks tailored to each client's business model, channels, and measurement capabilities.
Translate audience and data insights into consistent signal, platform data and audience targeting definitions across the paid media platforms.
Use audience data to develop and refine tiering strategies for local media applications of overall growth audience system
Ensure audience insights directly inform media planning decisions, including channel prioritization, media platform prioritization, messaging direction, journey design, and performance benchmarks.
Maintain audience systems and related outputs, ensuring they remain current, accurate, and consistently applied across planning and activation.
Performance Monitoring & Iterative Optimization
Partner with Analytics on audience-focused measurement frameworks and monitoring processes that connect audience performance to business outcomes and media effectiveness.
Analyze audience performance results on an ongoing basis to identify refinements, optimization opportunities, and learnings that inform audience and media evolution.
Drive iterative improvements to audience definitions, media plans, and targeting strategies based on in-market learning and changing client business needs.
Clearly communicate audience performance insights and recommendations to clients and internal teams, translating data into actionable strategic direction.
Strategic Partnership & Client Stewardship
Act as a strategic partner to clients, deeply understanding their business model, growth priorities, and audience challenges.
Identify opportunities to expand scope and deepen partnerships through strategic recommendations, innovation, and thought leadership.
Ensure delivery of consistently high-quality, insight-driven work that demonstrates clear connections between audience work and business outcomes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & New Ways of Working
Partner with planning, activation, and measurement teams to ensure audience thinking is embedded in strategy development, media execution, and measurement frameworks.
Guide audience-led ways of working within assigned accounts, demonstrating how consistent audience thinking drives better planning rigor and performance outcomes.
Collaborate with peers across the Growth Audiences team and broader dentsu X, sharing learnings and contributing to the evolution of audience approaches.
Qualifications & Experience
10+ years of experience in audience strategy, growth strategy, media strategy, or data-driven marketing within client-facing environments.
Deep expertise in developing audience systems, including audience definitions, prioritization frameworks, and translating audience insights into media strategy.
Strong experience in performance measurement, analytics, and using data to optimize marketing strategies and inform decision-making.
Demonstrated ability to translate audience insight into clear media and experience decisions that shape channel roles, messaging strategy, and performance optimization.
Fluency across the media, data, and technology ecosystem, with the ability to navigate platform constraints, addressability considerations, and measurement approaches.
Proven success as a trusted senior client advisor, skilled at building strong partnerships and translating complexity into clear, actionable direction for senior stakeholders.
Strong collaborative skills and ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment with planning, activation, and analytics teams.
Strategic storyteller comfortable with ambiguity, able to recommend bold directions, and driven to continuously improve approaches based on performance and learnings.
Ability to travel up to 10% as required to support client, team, and business needs (including travel for new business pitches).

Audience insights are clearly embedded in media planning and optimization, driving focused, differentiated strategies for assigned accounts.
Media plans reflect clear audience prioritization and are built on a shared understanding of who to target, what to say, and where to focus investment.
Audience performance monitoring and learnings drive continuous refinement of audiences and media strategies in an iterative fashion throughout the year.
Clients see measurable business outcomes directly connected to audience-led strategy and recognize dentsu X as a partner that brings strategic rigor and optimization discipline.
The annual base salary range for this position is $136,000-$200,000. Placement within the salary range is based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and other factors permitted by law. Additionally, this position is eligible for discretionary incentive compensation.

Employees who live within a commutable distance of one of our hub offices, currently located in Chicago, metro Detroit, Los Angeles, and New York City, are required and expected to work from the office three days per week (two days per week for employees based in Los Angeles). Dentsu may designate other Hub offices at any time. Those who live outside a commutable range may be designated as remote, depending on the role and business needs. Regardless of your work location, we expect our employees to be flexible to meet the needs of our Company and clients, which may include attendance in an office.
