JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/ Objective
East Side House (ESH), founded in 1891, is a 501(c) (3) organization that has served the South Bronx since 1963. The organization is dedicated to the community and focused on providing resources and opportunities. ESH has identified that education is the foundation for economic improvement and through its youth education and technology programs it teaches skills to allow its students and clients to become more self-sufficient and independent. As a community resource the organization also provides services to families and a growing senior population. In 2020 the organization began food distribution as an additional way to provide economic support to the community we serve. ESHs Youth After-School Academy, a literacy-focused after school program for students in grades 6 through 8 from high-poverty communities in Bronx, NY. ESH managed After School Programs offer students additional learning time in a fun, engaging, and safe environment. Students are offered a wide variety of activities including homework help, robotics, team sports, karate, dance, and music. Educational methods are used to build and reinforce the skills needed to reach New York State standards for promotion and graduation.
The Group Leaders primary responsibility is to design and lead enrichment activities for students. We are seeking creative professionals with experience working with the youth in the following (but not limited to) areas: Music, visual arts, media technology, dance, sports and recreation, health awareness and community leadership.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Group Leader – MS 337, will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Plan, implement and document successful educational, recreation, youth leadership, and community service and arts activities with school-aged children.
- Adhere to policies and procedures in a pro-active manner, making the safety and care of children your primary focus.
- Build a positive relationship with each after-school participant in your care and foster positive connections between participants. Actively engage with children at all times with the goal of fostering the positive development of each child and the group.
- Conduct yourself as a professional and representative of the agency with school staff, parents, children and anyone else with whom you come into contact in your role.
- Effectively manage assigned group. Maintain and enforce progressive discipline policy.
- Assist in enrollment, recording and submitting daily attendance records, and any other required documents to Director.
- Inspect all facilities, equipment, and supplies and be sure all are accounted for and put away at the end of each day.
- Work as a part of a collaborative team, providing support to any specialist implementing activities.
- Actively participate in all aspects of staff or member development, including bi-weekly supervision, team meetings, pre-service training, and an additional at least 15 hours of training during the school year.

- High School Diploma

- Department of Health Fingerprint Clearance
- Department of Education Fingerprint Clearance
- State Central Registry (SCR) Clearance, ($25.00 Fee)
- Staff Exclusion List (SEL) Clearance
- Physical examination and TB test
- Mandated Reporter Training (2 hours)
- Foundations of Health and Safety Training, (5 hours)

Employees must be clear to work at ESH. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background checks and/or screenings.

This role may involve occasional lifting or moving of items up to 25 pounds and routine use of standard office equipment. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Expected Work Schedule
This is a seasonal part-time position, working up to 20 hours a week. The Extended Day Program operates on school days from 2:00pm 5:30pm, and occasionally on non-school days from 7:30am - 5:45pm. The program operates Monday-Friday only. Workdays/hours subject to change based on ESHs needs.
