About MotherDuck

Don’t let the quirky name fool you: At MotherDuck, we’re on a mission to make data warehousing fun, frictionless, and ducking awesome for developers and data practitioners building blazing fast internal and customer-facing analytics experiences. We're building a cloud-hosted version of DuckDB, working hand-in-hand with the creators of the fastest-growing and fastest-improving query engine on the planet. Unlike other databases, MotherDuck was architected to unify local development with cloud operations to bridge the gap between software and data engineering workflows. Our team is a mix of thoughtful, passionate, and empathetic data industry veterans.

We're looking for a Growth Marketer who's a few years in and already has the instincts of someone who's done this before. Maybe you've founded a startup and owned the entire GTM motion (even if it didn't work out ... especially if it didn't work out, because you learned a ton). Maybe you've been the first marketing hire at a dev tools company and figured things out from scratch. Either way, you thrive in ambiguity, you move fast, and you've got a track record of getting technical buyers to pay attention.

This role can be based in our San Francisco, Seattle or New York offices.

What you will do

You'll own and execute growth experiments across the full funnel ... from awareness to activation to expansion. This isn't a "run the playbook" role. There is no playbook. You'll be building it.

Day to day, that looks like:

  • Designing and running experiments across paid, organic, community, email, and product-led channels ... measuring what works, killing what doesn't, and iterating fast

  • Writing compelling copy for landing pages, ads, emails, and campaigns that resonate with data engineers, analysts, and developers

  • Digging into data to understand what's driving pipeline and conversion ... and using those insights to inform what you do next

  • Collaborating closely with product, sales, developer relations, and content to amplify what's working

  • Keeping a pulse on the data and AI ecosystem so our marketing stays relevant, timely, and ahead of the curve

  • Building scrappy, creative campaigns that punch above their budget ... we're a startup, not a Fortune 500

What you bring
  • 2-5 years of experience in growth marketing, demand gen, or a GTM-focused role at a startup or early-stage company

  • Experience marketing to technical buyers ... you know how to earn credibility with engineers, data practitioners, or developers without sounding like a brochure

  • Familiarity with data analytics, databases, or AI ... whether you've worked in the space, built in it, or are just genuinely obsessed with it

  • Analytical chops ... you're comfortable pulling your own data, running experiments with real rigor, and making decisions based on evidence rather than vibes

  • Excellent writing ... clear, concise, and human. You can explain complex technical concepts without losing people or dumbing things down

  • Founder energy ... maybe you've actually founded something, or maybe you just operate like someone who has. You see gaps, you fill them, you don't wait to be told what to do

  • Speed and resourcefulness over perfection ... you'd rather ship something good today than something perfect next month

Bonus Points
  • You've built or run growth at an open-source or developer tools company

  • You have hands-on experience with DuckDB, SQL, or data tools

  • You've worked with PLG (product-led growth) motions

  • You've done content marketing or community-building for technical audiences

  • You have a side project, blog, or newsletter that shows how you think

What people should be saying if you’re doing ducking awesome
  • "They don't wait for anyone to tell them what to do ... they just see the gap and fill it."

  • "Their campaigns are creative, unexpected, and actually make people stop scrolling ... nobody else in the space is marketing like this."

  • "They move fast, but they're never reckless ... every experiment has a clear hypothesis and they always bring the team along for the ride."

  • "When the algorithm changed overnight and tanked our top channel, they had a new plan by morning ... and it worked better than the original."

What we provide
  • Feather-ruffling compensation – competitive salary and stock options so you have a stake in our flock’s success.

  • Top-notch healthcare coverage – 100% paid medical, dental, and vision for employees, plus 80% coverage for dependents (because we care about your whole nest).

  • Flexible PTO – take the time you need to recharge, explore, or just have a lazy day by the pond.

  • 401k plan – because even ducks need to plan for the future.

  • Legendary company events – we bring the whole flock together twice a year for unforgettable summits in fun locations, plus 1-2 team gatherings a year to keep our bonds strong.

  • Flexible work environment - spend most of the week in the office collaborating with the flock, and work from wherever you're most productive the rest of the time. Specifics are role dependent and as agreed upon with your manager

Please Apply

Does this role sound appealing to you, but you’re missing some of the requirements or don’t quite think you’re qualified?  Please apply anyway. Research has shown that underrepresented groups in technology often shy away from roles which aren’t a 100% match. We aim to build a diverse team and will strongly consider applicants who bring many of the requirements plus have other experiences which round out their qualifications.

We do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, status as a protected veteran, status as an individual with a disability, or other applicable legally protected characteristics.
