Who we are

We're a small team that believes providing access to better financial insights and tools improves people’s lives, so we’re taking money matters into our own hands.

We’re building a new kind of financial platform that empowers people to take control of their finances, make informed decisions, and achieve their goals. We're a high-energy, fast-paced startup looking for determined, hands-on folks to join our team and make a real impact on people's financial lives.

The Position

Copilot is looking for a Head of Engineering to partner closely with our CTO and lead the day-to-day management of our entire Engineering team. This includes our talented iOS, Web, and Backend engineers across our New York City 🇺🇸 and Santiago, Chile 🇨🇱 offices.

As we continue scaling our app across platforms, we’re looking for a strong engineering leader who can ensure our engineering organization continues to deliver a best-in-class product while evolving our development practices to embrace AI-assisted engineering. You will help us maintain the high velocity and collaborative culture that have defined our success to date.

This is a hybrid position based in New York City. You’ll be required to come into our office at least 2 times a week along with the rest of the team. We work from home the rest of the week, but the office is always available in case you want to make use of it more often.

Your Responsibilities

  • Support and develop engineering managers and team leads across iOS, Web, and Backend. Set clear goals, ensure strong execution, and build a high-performing, collaborative team.

  • Drive the adoption of AI-native engineering workflows (like Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or Cursor) to amplify the team's output while maintaining strict standards for code quality and architectural integrity.

  • Help scale our engineering processes, including cycle planning, prioritization, hiring, and internal communication.

  • Partner with Product, Design, and Operations teams to align on company goals and ensure efficient, transparent roadmapping and delivery.

  • Work closely with our CTO and Staff Engineers to shape and refine our technical strategy, architecture, and platform investments.

  • Champion a strong engineering culture rooted in trust, inclusion, and autonomy, where AI is used to automate repetitive tasks, allowing our engineers to focus on complex problem solving and technical excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in Software Engineering, with around 4 years in a leadership or management role.

  • Proven experience managing cross-functional and multi-location teams.

  • Background in consumer product development, preferably in high-scale mobile or fintech apps.

  • Deep understanding of software development best practices across frontend and backend, with a clear perspective on how to maintain engineering rigor and expert oversight in an AI-accelerated environment.

  • Passion for building simple, elegant solutions to complex technical and human challenges.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Based in New York City or able to commute to our NYC office at least twice a week.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in a startup or high-growth environment, ideally at the Series A/B/C stage.

  • Exposure to or familiarity with our tech stack: Node.js, TypeScript, Firebase, Swift, React.

  • Experience leading teams in an AI-assisted environment, with a focus on leveraging LLMs to accelerate development cycles without sacrificing system reliability or security.

  • Experience scaling engineering processes and teams.

  • Previous involvement in recruiting, hiring, and team design at a strategic level.

  • Understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, observability, and data-driven product iteration.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual Salary of $230k to $260k

  • Equity in the company

  • Health, Dental & Vision Insurance (company pays 100% premium for employee)

  • 401k matching up to 4%

  • Home Office Setup, and monthly Internet reimbursement (up to $80/month)

  • Wellness Reimbursement ($100/month)

  • 4 weeks of PTO. After 2 years in the company you get 5 extra vacation days, and 5 more after 4 years.

  • Annual company retreats.
