Photon gives patients ownership of prescriptions. Our platform enables clinicians to send prescriptions to patients via text, giving patients the freedom to choose the pharmacy that works best for them. We’re building a simpler, more transparent prescription experience for patients, providers, and pharmacies.
Photon’s finance function is a blank spreadsheet, and we’re looking for the person who fills it in. This role covers everything: the model, the plan, the close, pricing and unit economics, fundraising, spend, and the systems that hold it all together. You’ll be the strategic partner the executive team leans on for decisions about pricing, growth, and capital — and the person who makes sure the books are clean.
We’re looking for someone who has done this before, or grew up in this kind of environment: a growing venture-backed company where finance meant covering everything, not owning one slice of it. You’ve gone well beyond FP&A — you’ve supported a fundraise, rebuilt pricing, run the close, or figured out what the business actually earns on each customer — and you want to own the whole picture.
Fair warning: this is a hands-on role. There’s no team underneath you (yet), so you’ll build the model, run the close and do the analysis yourself. You’ll also be one of the most important strategic voices in the room, turning messy operating data into a clear point of view and helping the team act on it.
You’re rigorous and fast, low-ego, unbothered by ambiguity, and get a little thrill from building the plumbing before the house needs it. In Photon terms: you know you have to make the rice before you get to touch the fish.
- Own Photon’s operating model, budget, and forecasts — the source of truth leadership uses for decisions on hiring, burn, and runway
- Own financial reporting for leadership and investors — the metrics, updates, and materials that keep everyone working from the same numbers
- Build a clear picture of Photon’s unit economics and use it to shape pricing, contract structure, and go-to-market decisions alongside Sales and Partnerships
- Run annual planning and the operating cadence: KPIs, budget-vs-actuals, and monthly business reviews
- Own accounting operations — monthly close, audit, tax, and the partners that support them — and keep the books clean and timely
- Build the finance infrastructure Photon needs to scale: systems, spend controls, and processes that hold up at twice the headcount
- Lead fundraising readiness: investor-grade metrics, model, data room, and narrative, partnering with the executive team through our next raise
- Take on strategic projects as they come up: new channel or market analysis, build-vs-buy decisions, the economics of major contracts
- 7+ years of experience, with early-career training in investment banking, management consulting, or a similarly rigorous analytical environment
- 2+ years in a finance, strategic finance, or BizOps role at a venture-backed startup through a period of significant growth
- Ownership beyond FP&A — direct experience with at least two of: fundraising, pricing or unit economics, board reporting, cash and capital planning
- Hands-on experience owning or managing accounting operations: monthly close, audit or tax preparation, and outside accounting partners
- You build and maintain complex financial models yourself, and can explain them simply to a non-finance audience
- Clear, confident communicator — you can hold a point of view under pressure and explain the numbers to anyone at the company
- Excitement to work from our Brooklyn office at least three days per week
- Built finance infrastructure from scratch at an early-stage company: systems, close process, spend controls
- Experience in healthcare, pharmacy, marketplace, or payments businesses — anywhere transaction economics get complicated
- Experience modeling enterprise contracts: pilots, implementation fees, multi-year deals
- Supported a priced equity round (Series A or later), including diligence and the data room
Photon is reimagining how prescriptions move through the healthcare system—making the experience simpler, faster, and more transparent for patients, providers, and pharmacies alike. You’ll:
- Build Photon’s finance function from the ground up and decide what it becomes
- Own the numbers behind every major decision, working directly with the founder/executive team
- Take on a genuinely hard modeling problem: prescription and pharmacy economics are complex and opaque, and making them transparent is the point
- Work on a problem almost everyone you know has experienced, and help fix a system that’s broken in ways most people just accept
- Join a team that gives a shit — about the work, about each other, and about doing things the right way. High trust, high standards, and people who actually like spending time together
