Head of HR

We’re looking for a thoughtful, proactive Head of HR to join our fast-growing team and lead all aspects of the human resources and legal compliance functions. This is a high-impact, hands-on role responsible for supporting both corporate and retail employees across the full employee lifecycle—recruiting, onboarding, performance, compliance, and more. You’ll build the systems, processes, and culture that support sustainable growth and a thriving, people-first organization. Role is based in our NYC corporate office (3 days in office).

Key Responsibilities

HR & Talent Management

  • Develop and manage HR policies, tools, and workflows to support a high-performing, values-aligned workforce.
  • Oversee full-cycle recruiting, onboarding, performance management, and employee development across both corporate and retail teams.
  • Foster a culture of engagement, inclusion, and growth, partnering with leadership to promote long-term employee retention and career development.
  • Act as a strategic thought partner to team leads and a trusted advisor to employees at all levels.
  • Drive consistency in employee experience by owning 30/60/90-day plans, feedback frameworks, and recognition programs.

Legal & Compliance Oversight

  • Own HR compliance, ensuring all practices align with local, state, and federal employment laws.
  • Partner with external counsel to oversee broader legal functions, including contract reviews, policy updates, and risk mitigation.
  • Ensure the company remains compliant with applicable labor regulations, consumer protection laws, and franchising guidelines.
  • Maintain and regularly update legal documentation, including employment contracts, company policies, and required filings.
  • Manage company-wide insurance renewals (e.g., general liability, workers’ compensation), coordinating with brokers and internal stakeholders to ensure adequate coverage and cost-effectiveness.

Office Management & IT Coordination

  • Oversee general office operations and serve as the point person for workspace needs, supplies, and employee experience in the physical office.
  • Coordinate equipment set-up and management (e.g., laptops, monitors, docking stations) for new hires and existing team members.
  • Liaise with external IT providers to troubleshoot basic issues, manage hardware inventory, and ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure all office processes and environments reflect the company’s culture and values, creating a welcoming and efficient workplace.

People Operations & Cross-Functional Support

  • Serve as the point person for onboarding and offboarding logistics, including systems access and IT coordination.
  • Own benefits administration, employee inquiries, and annual open enrollment processes.
  • Manage leaves of absence and accommodation requests with consistency and discretion.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives, culture-building efforts, and organizational planning.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally in a high-growth consumer or retail business with exposure to store employees
  • Proven success building and managing HR systems in an environment without a large support team.
  • Strong working knowledge of labor laws, HR compliance, and legal document management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust quickly.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple responsibilities with a hands-on, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Experience with HRIS platforms (e.g., Gusto), ATS tools (e.g., Greenhouse), and Google Workspace preferred.

Compensation for the role will be determined based candidate’s qualifications, skills, and experience.
