Lead and build SquareCredit Cards product from vision to outcomes. Define strategy, AI-native features, embedded workflows, rewards and economics, manage portfolio metrics, recruit and lead product team, and partner across engineering, risk, compliance, finance, and GTM to deliver scalable credit products for small businesses.
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
Today, Square is the largest online SMB lender in America. We didn't get here by playing it safe - we got here by rewriting the rules.
While traditional banks relied on outdated credit models that locked out millions of small businesses, we built something different. We leveraged real-time payments data, cash flow insights, and deep business relationships to unlock capital for the businesses that power your neighborhood - the restaurants, coffee shops, food trucks, salons, and retailers operating on razor-thin margins and variable cash flow.
Now we're bringing that same insurgent energy to credit cards.
We're not building another corporate card. We're building the credit card franchise purpose-built for real-world businesses, designed around inventory cycles, tip management, supplier payments, and seasonal swings. Business Credit Cards that understand a restaurant's Friday night is different from a salon's Tuesday morning. Credit Cards that work the way these businesses actually operate.
This is a once-in-a-career opportunity to define and lead a category-defining credit product from the ground up.
The Role
We're hiring a Head of Product, Square Credit Cards to build the next generation of business credit, that doesn't just serve small businesses, but actually understands them.
This is not a "manage the roadmap" role. This is a "build the future" role.
You'll define the vision. You'll set the strategy. You'll build the team. And you'll own the outcomes - from activation and spend to loss rates and contribution margin. This is a high impact, high ownership, high visibility leadership role for one of the most important product bets Square is making.
If you're a product leader who gets energized by hard problems, loves the craft of building, and wants to create something that fundamentally changes how small businesses access and use credit-this is your role.

If you're a product leader who gets energized by hard problems, loves the craft of building, and wants to create something that fundamentally changes how small businesses access and use credit-this is your role.
You Will
Define the Product Vision
- Build a multi-year product vision for Square's credit card business rooted in the real needs of food & beverage and retail operators
- Design vertically-focused card experiences tailored to how restaurants manage tips, how retailers handle inventory, and how service businesses control expenses
- Create a roadmap that balances growth, risk performance, customer value, and long-term profitability
Build AI-Native Financial Software
- Lead development of AI-powered capabilities like intelligent spend categorization, proactive cash-flow insights, personalized limit recommendations, and automated reconciliation
- Create embedded workflows that let sellers manage inventory purchases, supplier payments, and expense controls directly within Square with no context switching, no manual exports
- Ensure the card functions as part of an operating system, not just a payment instrument
Deliver Software-Led Differentiation
- Build features that matter: spend controls, role-based permissions, rewards aligned to merchant categories, real-time reporting, seamless accounting integrations
- Reimagine rewards, pricing, and value propositions for businesses with high COGS and tight operating margins, because a 2% travel perks card designed for tech companies doesn't meet the needs of a thin margined bagel cafe
- Drive measurable improvements in seller retention, engagement, and lifetime value
Own Outcomes and Economics
- Define and manage portfolio metrics: activation, spend, retention, loss rates, net revenue, contribution margin
- Understand the full P&L: interchange, funding costs, credit performance, capital implications
- Balance disciplined credit economics with ambitious product innovation because splashy credit products that lose money or cause businesses to go into debt spirals, aren't great products
Build and Lead the Credit Card Product Team
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of product managers
- Set a culture of clarity, accountability, customer obsession, and technical depth
- Partner closely with Engineering, Design, Compliance, Legal, Finance, Capital Markets, and Go-To-Market teams to execute at scale
You Have
- 12+ years of product management experience, including building and leading high performing teams in financial services, credit cards, fintech, or payments.
- A track record of delivering high impact credit products that shape company strategy, unlock new growth, and drive measurable outcomes
- Experience leading complex products at scale across multiple customer segments and platforms, while adapting to different risk profiles, regulatory environments, and user needs.
- Strength in developing and scaling product management teams, mentoring and fostering a culture of excellence and inclusion
- Strong product judgment and range, from core credit economics and underwriting innovation to customer experience, rewards design, and software driven differentiation
- A proven ability to partner closely with Engineering, Risk, Data Science, Finance, Compliance, and Go-To-Market leaders to coalesce and deliver ambitious goals
- Strength in building and scaling product organizations, mentoring senior product managers, and creating a culture of accountability, rigor, and customer obsession
- Comfort operating at both strategic altitude and operational depth. You can define a multi-year vision for a credit platform while also diving into approval flows, pricing mechanics, loss curves, and UX details
- A systems-level mindset with the ability to connect underwriting models, card economics, rewards structures, and embedded software features into a unified customer experience
- A forward-looking perspective on AI, automation, and real time data in credit products, and a clear point of view on how these technologies can create tangible value for businesses.
