About Alaffia & Our Mission

Every year, U.S. health plans lose billions to improper payments and administrative waste. That wasted spending ultimately trickles down across the healthcare ecosystem, driving up costs for plans, providers, and patients alike. We’re here to change that paradigm.

Alaffia is a new kind of claims operations partner for health plans. Using expert clinicians and transparent AI, we deliver deeper insights, smarter automation, and consistently better outcomes across the entire lifecycle of claims. With Alaffia, health plans can cut wasted spending more effectively than ever — and provide their members the most affordable care.

We’re a high-growth, venture-backed Series B healthtech startup based in NYC and are actively scaling our company. Join us in helping to build a healthcare system that works better for everyone.

About the Role & What You'll Be Doing

As an HR Generalist, you'll play a key role in supporting Alaffia's people operations as we scale. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, keeping systems running smoothly, and being a reliable resource for employees and managers alike. You'll work closely with the People Operations lead and functional teams to execute core HR processes across the employee lifecycle.

You will be responsible for supporting and maintaining our people systems — performance management cycles, payroll and benefits administration, compliance tracking, and HR reporting. You'll also serve as a go-to resource for employee questions, helping navigate day-to-day matters with good judgment and a people-first approach.

What You'll Do

  • HR Operations & Administration – Support and maintain HR processes across payroll, benefits, compliance, and people data. Keep systems accurate and up-to-date as we grow.

  • Employee Lifecycle – Coordinate and execute onboarding, offboarding, performance review cycles, and engagement programs, ensuring a consistent and positive employee experience.

  • Performance Management Support – Administer performance frameworks and feedback processes, support documentation practices, and help managers navigate performance conversations.

  • Benefits & Payroll Administration – Process payroll, support open enrollment, troubleshoot employee benefits questions, and coordinate with external vendors and brokers.

  • Employee Relations – Handle routine employee relations matters and escalate complex situations appropriately. Serve as a trusted, accessible resource for employee questions.

  • Compliance – Help ensure the company stays current with federal and state employment law requirements, maintaining accurate records and supporting audits as needed.

  • People Metrics & Reporting – Maintain people data and generate reports on key HR metrics to support leadership decision-making.

What We're Looking For

  • 3–4+ years of HR experience in a generalist or operations-focused role, ideally at a fast-growing startup or tech company

  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment law and HR compliance fundamentals

  • Hands-on experience with HRIS platforms (Rippling experience a strong plus) and strong proficiency in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office

  • Experience supporting payroll and benefits administration

  • Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and organizational skills

  • Good judgment and discretion when handling sensitive employee matters

  • A collaborative, service-oriented mindset — you're comfortable with a wide range of tasks and take pride in keeping things running well

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment where priorities shift and structure is still being built

Our Culture

Alaffia was born out of our founders’ personal connection to the inefficiency of the U.S. healthcare system. We are deeply mission-driven, with an abiding belief that technology can help create a better future for everyone — and we’re looking for others who share our passion for change to join the team.

What Else Do You Get Working With Us?

  • Competitive Compensation (Salary + Bonus + Equity)

  • 401(k), Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits

  • Flexible, paid vacation policy

  • Work in a flat organizational structure — direct access to Leadership
