The Community You Will Join

HuffPost is seeks a skilled, experienced, ambitious reporter to cover breaking news during U.S. Eastern Time morning hours for our large, diverse, engaged, and news-obsessed audience. The reporter will be on the frontline of HuffPost’s coverage of the day's significant stories and will cover breaking news across a range of subjects, from U.S. politics to major court cases to international events. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of experience in reporting; however, we encourage candidates with less experience to apply, provided they have the necessary skills for the role.

This role’s typical shifts take place during U.S. Eastern Time morning/daytime and will involve work on one weekend day. If you are located near the New York City office, you will be required to come into the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

A Typical Day

  •  Report on breaking news on a range of subjects.
  • Contribute to live coverage of significant events, such as elections, debates, and natural disasters.
  • Consistently pitch ideas for daily news coverage and execute them.
  • Independently identify which news events to cover and how to cover them

Who You Are

  •  Exceptional writing and research skills.
  • A willingness to hit the phones and pivot from one topic to another without hesitation.
  • Command of how to report and structure a news story.
  • Strong news judgment.
  • A knack for brainstorming informative, interesting, and fun story ideas.
  • The ability to collaborate across multiple teams and juggle several stories and projects at the same time.
  • Speed and precision in covering breaking news events, and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • An expansive and varied news diet and an obsession with breaking news.
  • A minimum of five years of reporting experience. (We encourage candidates with less experience to apply, provided they have the necessary skills for the role.)
  • Fluency in digital news-gathering tools, including social media, is a plus.
