Manage indirect tax compliance, planning, and controversy for sales and use, property, excise, and VAT. Prepare and file returns, research taxability, lead audits and responses, coordinate with stakeholders and external providers, oversee registrations and exemption processes, pursue VAT reclaims, and drive process improvements and automation.
The Indirect Tax Manager will be responsible for indirect tax compliance, planning, and controversy, including sales and use tax, property tax, and air transportation excise tax. This role requires significant interaction across the finance organization, as well as with external service providers, tax authorities, and customers. The Indirect Tax Manager will work closely with the Tax Director to shape and execute the Company’s indirect tax strategy, goals, and objectives as the business grows organically and through strategic initiatives. This position will also provide critical support to other departments across the organization to ensure tax compliance, mitigate risk, and enable operational success.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the preparation, review, and filing of indirect tax returns (sales and use tax, property tax, and excise tax) across applicable jurisdictions.
- Research tax issues and provide guidance on taxability of products, services, and business operations.
- Manage inquiries from taxing authorities, customers and other departments throughout the organization to ensure they are addressed promptly and accurately.
- Lead and coordinate the Company’s response to indirect tax audits, including managing communications with taxing authorities, responding to information requests, and ensuring timely and accurate resolution of audits.
- Partner with other departments within the Company to identify and mitigate indirect tax risks.
- Maintain compliance with indirect tax laws and monitor legislative updates; communicate relevant changes and implications to internal stakeholders.
- Manage sales and use tax registrations and exemption certificate processes.
- Lead VAT reclaim efforts in various foreign jurisdictions to minimize cash taxes.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and increased efficiency in indirect tax compliance.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 5–10 years of indirect tax experience, including U.S. sales and use tax and property tax; experience with air transportation excise tax and VAT a plus.
- Proven ability to manage indirect tax audits and collaborate across departments.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong computer and software skills, including Microsoft Office Suite Applications.
- Strong documentation skills.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple inquiries/requests quickly.
