Roles and Responsibilities:
The role of the Industrial Sales Application Engineer, you will play a critical role in driving the growth of our vertical markets. You will work closely with Market Development Managers to drive specifications at engineers, convert end users and OEMs, engage with contractors, and build a robust sales pipeline. This role requires a deep understanding of the industries we serve and the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
In this role, you’ll help run what runs the world, by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact.
The work model for the role is: Remote; (NY, NJ, MA), preference to NY #Li-Remote
You will be mainly accountable for:
Drive product specifications by collaborating with engineers, contractors, and OEMs to ensure ABB products are included in new projects, renovations, and design plans
Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline through proactive engagement with key stakeholders including engineers, distributors, end-users, and industry partners to meet or exceed sales objectives
Provide technical support and application guidance to customers, delivering product presentations and translating complex technical information into customer value
Conduct market analysis to identify growth opportunities and provide Voice of Customer (VOC) feedback to Product and Market Development teams on market needs
Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and loyalty through consistent engagement and responsive support
Collaborate with Market Development Managers and internal teams to align sales strategies with business objectives and support large-scale vertical market deployment
Stay current with industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies while continuously enhancing technical knowledge and sales skills

Qualifications for the role:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related field with 3-5 years of industrial sales experience in specified vertical markets
Strong technical knowledge of ABB installation products and applications, with proven ability to present complex
information to diverse audiences and build relationships with customers, engineers, and contractors
Self-motivated, results-driven professional with excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve business objectives
Ability to travel 30-40% for overnight stays with weekly local travel within assigned territory; must possess current US work authorization
What Success Looks Like:
Sales Performance • Deliver $5M+ in annual orders with healthy pipeline of $15M+ in qualified opportunities • Drive growth in product specifications through wins and competitive conversions • Execute geography strategy with defined sales plan and call schedule to grow priority verticals and industrial segments
Market Influence & Strategy • Achieve early project influence by engaging customers during design and specification phases • Successfully displace competitive products and grow market share within priority vertical markets • Provide effective product trainings to customers, partners, and internal stakeholders
Relationship Building • Build and maintain strong relationships with OEM panel shops, OEM machine builders, electrical contractors, EPCs, design consultants, and local owners • Serve as ABB brand ambassador, maintaining professional presence and representing company values
Collaboration & Development • Coordinate cross-functionally with Electrification/Motion counterparts, Mobile Solution Truck, Market Development Managers, District Sales Managers, and agents • Maintain travel and call cycles that balance current business retention with new growth opportunities • Pursue continuous professional development and stay current with industry trends

While base salary is determined by things such as the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience, this position is expected to pay between $100,500 and $160,800 annually and is eligible for a short-term incentive plan/annual bonus.
