Position Title: Insurance - Associate (NY)

Summary/Overview:

Kroll Bond Rating Agency (KBRA) is seeking an experienced (3+ years) professional to join its rapidly expanding global insurance ratings team. This dynamic, highly motivated, curious, and collaborative individual will support all aspects of the credit rating process for insurers and reinsurers located within the U.S., as well as in other regions of the world.  As a full member of the ratings analytical team, you will coordinate and perform high profile and challenging work alongside senior staff and external stakeholders. This role involves a variety of analytical tasks and will cover all types of (re)insurance organizations across the many markets encompassing the non-life and life sectors. The position is based out of our New York office.   

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support development of credit rating recommendations for new and existing ratings for (re)insurers as well as various related debt securities
  • Perform analysis of key quantitative and qualitative factors influencing the credit quality of (re) insurers including: analysis of financial statements, risk management frameworks, management strategy and business plans of rated entities.
  • Create competitor overviews and peer group benchmarks
  • Assist with authoring research and rating reports on companies, sectors and key industry topics for publication
  • Present work product at internal credit rating committees
  • Participate in external management meetings

Successful candidates will possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Math or related fields
  • 3+ years of work experience in a financial analyst, management reporting, or regulatory role; credit risk training/experience as well as knowledge of insurance accounting is expected
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and across disciplines in a challenging and dynamic environment
  • Strong interest and/or relevant experience in ratings and/or the insurance industry
  • Professional designation (CFA, Actuarial, MBA, CPCU, CLU, FLMI, FRM) a definite plus
  • Familiarity with Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT for research, data insights, and general productivity is a plus

Salary Range:

The anticipated annual base salary range for this full-time position is $90,000 - $115,000. Offer amounts are determined by factors such as experience, skills, geography, and other job-related factors.
