Personal Finance/Insurance Staff Writer
WSJ | Buy Side is seeking an ambitious and energetic journalist for its Personal Finance (Insurance)  team. This writer will play a key role on our team, translating complex insurance topics into clear, consumer-friendly content.
The candidate must have experience writing articles on insurance topics, have strong knowledge of insurance products, have experience working with data and enjoy breaking down sometimes complicated topics in a way that is interesting, accurate, relevant and distinctive.

The successful candidate will have experience reporting on all or most of these insurance topics: pet, auto, life, business, travel, homeowners and renters.

About the Role:
This staff writer will ensure that articles meet high quality standards of journalism while  responsibly guiding readers. This role is part of the WSJ | Buy Side editorial team.

You Will:

  • Write articles on insurance topics that are relevant for WSJ subscribers. 

  • Write polished, clear prose that balances tone and expertise.

  • Ensure accuracy and journalistic standards for all content. 

  • Work with large data sets..

  • Ensure that sources/sourcing are appropriate for the topic.

  • Collaborate with the editorial and commerce teams on article lineups for future months to ensure relevancy for the WSJ audience.

  • Develop an understanding of the WSJ.com audience to ensure articles are properly serving our audience’s needs.

  • Work well under pressure and collaborate effectively as part of a team.

  • Be meticulous in copy and ambitious in reporting, ensuring accuracy and depth in all coverage.

  • Recommend linking opportunities to recent WSJ news articles where topics align.
     

You Have:

  • 3+ years of personal finance writing experience.

  • Knowledge of writing for SEO.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, while delivering quality content.

  • Experience with Google Sheets and working with extensive data sets.

  • Extremely detail oriented and have high organizational skills

  • Fluency in consumer finance/insurance.

  • A track record of writing unique, engaging personal finance stories.

  • A knack for finding unique angles from data sets.

  • Familiarity with affiliate revenue operations and search engine optimization.

Pay Range: $70,000 - $90,000
