DESRI (formerly D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments) is a market-leading owner and operator of renewable energy projects throughout the United States. We have acquired or developed approximately 12 gigawatts of contracted capacity across a portfolio of over 80 renewable energy projects in 24 states.

About the role

DESRI seeks talented, intellectually curious, and highly motivated individuals with a desire to learn and contribute to our Human Capital team during our summer internship program. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across our Human Capital functions that support DESRI’s growing workforce.

As a Human Capital intern, you will become part of a small, inclusive, and highly skilled team responsible for advancing professional development, employee engagement, and organizational initiatives in a fast-paced environment. You will also have the chance to explore how Human Capital partners with the broader organization to enable DESRI’s success as a leader in renewable energy. The internship will be based in our New York office.

What you'll do

As a Human Capital intern, you’ll collaborate with colleagues across the company and contribute to high-impact projects that support DESRI’s people strategy. Your responsibilities may include:

• Helping design and deliver employee engagement programs and initiatives that strengthen DESRI’s inclusive culture.
• Contributing to learning & development efforts by supporting training programs, intern events, and professional development workshops.
• Assisting with data and analytics projects that help evaluate workforce trends and inform decision-making.
• Partnering with the team on HR operations, including onboarding, policy review, and documentation.
• Participating in cross-functional initiatives to see how Human Capital integrates with DESRI’s mission to expand renewable energy solutions.

Throughout the summer, you’ll be paired with a mentor and supported by a team who will guide your professional growth. You’ll also participate in intern programming—including site visits to DESRI’s renewable energy projects, intern networking events, and a final presentation to company leadership.

Qualifications

• We’re interested in highly analytical, accomplished students. Intellectually curious individuals with well-developed written and verbal communication abilities, analytical acumen, and an entrepreneurial mindset will excel in this role.
• A proven record of academic and/or professional achievement is required.
• The ability to collaborate well with a small team, keen organizational skills when working on multiple projects, and a high level of motivation are vital to this role.
• Demonstrated interest in and experience with the renewable energy sector is required.
• Preference will be given to undergraduate or graduate students who are in their final year of full-time study.
• The pay for undergraduates participating in this internship is $5,000 monthly with a $5,000 housing stipend. MBA interns are paid $8,000 monthly with a $5,000 housing stipend.
