We are seeking an IT Systems Engineer to own and manage our Linux infrastructure and Dev-facing platform operations. This role is responsible for the reliability, performance, security, and compliance of our Linux
environments, as well as the administration of Atlassian products (Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence) and other development-supporting platforms. This role works closely with a Systems Administrator focused on core enterprise systems (Windows, VMware, identity) to provide mutual backup and cross-coverage across the infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Manage, maintain, and optimize Linux server environments across physical, virtual, and cloud-based infrastructure.
- Administer and support Atlassian products including Jira, Bitbucket, and Confluence — including upgrades, configuration, user management, and troubleshooting.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Development teams requiring infrastructure and platform support.
- Manage disk provisioning, partitioning, and storage operations within Linux environments.
- Own patch deployment and management for all Linux-based systems and platforms.
- Proactively monitor system health, performance, and security across Linux infrastructure; troubleshoot and resolve critical issues.
- Implement and enforce compliance controls related to CMMC, SOC2, and/or other relevant frameworks within the Linux/platform environment.
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing evidence, maintaining documentation, and ensuring Linux systems adhere to established compliance standards.
- Create, update, and maintain detailed documentation for systems, processes, and compliance controls.
- Collaborate with Development, Security, and Infrastructure teams to ensure platform reliability and alignment with organizational goals.
- Provide Tier 2/3 escalation support for infrastructure-related issues and end user support requests that exceed Help Desk capabilities.
- Serve as backup to the Systems Administrator, Enterprise Systems role to ensure cross-coverage and continuity.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in Linux administration and platform operations to drive continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 6+ years of experience in Linux systems administration.
- Strong experience with Linux server management, including RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, or similar distributions.
- Experience administering Atlassian products (Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence) or similar development platforms.
- Solid understanding of disk management, storage, and file system operations in Linux.
- Experience with patch deployment and management in Linux environments.
- Familiarity with scripting and automation (Bash, Python, or similar).
- Experience supporting development teams and understanding of CI/CD pipelines, version control, and development workflows.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks (CMMC, SOC2, ISO 27001) and experience implementing or supporting related controls.
- Experience with system monitoring tools and proactive troubleshooting.
- Strong documentation skills.
- Familiarity with Windows environments sufficient to provide backup support to the Enterprise Systems role.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience supporting internal and external audits, including evidence
preparation and documentation. - Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with configuration management and automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Terraform.
- Experience with CI/CD platforms beyond Atlassian (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
- Basic database administration experience (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL) sufficient to support and troubleshoot issues.
