About this role

Your team

The Regulatory Reporting engineering team builds and supports enterprise-scale technology that enables accurate, timely, and compliant regulatory reporting. The team works across product, compliance, operations, architecture, and engineering functions to develop scalable solutions that respond to evolving regulatory requirements. The work combines modern software engineering with the controls, reliability, security, and auditability expected of regulatory reporting platforms.

Your role and impact

As a Java Developer, you will design, build, and support high-performance applications and data-processing capabilities for Regulatory Reporting. You will help translate business and regulatory requirements into scalable technical solutions while contributing to architecture, platform modernization, and engineering standards. You will also use artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted development approaches to improve engineering productivity while applying appropriate human judgment, testing, security, and governance to production software.

Your responsibilities

In every role at BlackRock, you'll be expected to apply sound judgement and critical thinking to solve complex problems, adapt as the business evolves, and combine the curiosity to explore new approaches and technologies with the rigor to challenge the results. The scope of this role also includes the following responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support Java-based regulatory reporting applications, translating business and regulatory requirements into scalable, maintainable technical solutions.
  • Build microservices, application programming interfaces (APIs), and data-processing capabilities that aggregate, transform, reconcile, and validate high-volume financial and operational data for regulatory reporting.
  • Partner with product, compliance, operations, architecture, and engineering stakeholders to deliver solutions that meet performance, reliability, security, auditability, and compliance expectations.
  • Provide technical leadership through code reviews, engineering best practices, and mentoring of junior engineers.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement preventive solutions that strengthen platform reliability.
  • Contribute to architecture, technical strategy, and platform modernization while maintaining technical documentation and supporting audit and compliance activities.

Your experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, with seven or more years of software development experience, including five or more years of hands-on Java development.
  • Strong Java engineering expertise, including Java 11/17+, object-oriented design, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Hibernate, and Java Persistence API (JPA).
  • Experience designing scalable microservices, RESTful application programming interfaces (APIs), and distributed services for enterprise applications.
  • Strong Structured Query Language (SQL) skills and experience with relational databases and high-volume, data-intensive application processing.
  • Experience with version control, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), modern DevOps practices, cloud platforms, Open Container Initiative (OCI) container image packaging and runtime, and enterprise-grade container orchestration platforms supporting declarative infrastructure and horizontal scaling.
  • Experience with regulatory reporting, compliance, risk, finance, or related data platforms, including data governance, controls, reconciliation, and audit considerations, is preferred.
  • Experience applying AI-assisted development tools responsibly, combined with strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaborative engineering skills in Agile environments; experience with distributed event streaming and messaging platforms is beneficial.
