Who We Are

Leap Theory, LLC is an already profitable, fast growing, 8-year old advertising technology firm that serves as a robust resource for companies in the financial services industry. It was founded by people looking to build a better workplace. Four things drive us: ethics, continuous improvement, gratitude, and teamwork. Yes, we aim for top performance in our industry, but HOW we get there matters more. We understand your time is important. Who you spend it with is important. What you apply your talents to is important. Thanks for considering applying your time and talents to our company and learning what makes us - we believe - very different from other high performance tech companies.

About the Role

We’re looking for a sharp, driven, and deeply curious attorney to join our fast-growing fintech team. This role is built for someone who is genuinely interested in the work and is someone who likes understanding how products function, how regulations apply in the real world, and how to move quickly without sacrificing rigor. If you’re smart, proactive, and enjoy solving hard problems alongside operators, you’ll thrive here. This is a unique seat for an attorney who wants to be close to the business. You’ll work directly with the executive team across multiple fintech verticals, building deep expertise across the full range of consumer finance and privacy regulation. In some cases, you’ll have the opportunity to weigh in on how emerging legislation develops through our industry relationships.

You’ll work directly with leadership across product, compliance, operations, and marketing to help build and scale innovative financial products. This is a hands-on role where strong execution and intellectual engagement matter more than hierarchy.

This is a full-time, in-office role based in Santa Monica, California.

What You’ll Do

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Advise on federal and state laws impacting fintech products, including UDAAP/UDAP, FCRA, Reg Z, Reg B, TCPA, CAN-SPAM, and privacy laws (CCPA/CPRA, GLBA, and similar frameworks).
  • Translate regulatory requirements into clear, practical business guidance.
  • Partner with Compliance on audits, exams, and risk assessments.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and proactively guide internal teams.
  • Advise on marketing materials and user-facing content.

Commercial & Product Support

  • Draft, review, and negotiate vendor, partner, and marketing agreements.
  • Ensure contracts align with regulatory and operational realities.
  • Maintain and update terms of use, privacy policies, and related documentation.

Corporate & Strategic Work

  • Support corporate structuring, governance, and recordkeeping.
  • Assist with transactions including financings, investments, and acquisitions.

Cross-Functional Impact

  • Work closely with product, engineering, and business teams to enable innovation that works within legal parameters.
  • Contribute to fraud strategy, incident response, and data governance initiatives.
  • Turn complex legal concepts into actionable, business-friendly advice.

What We’re Looking For

  • JD and active California Bar membership.
  • 3–8+ years of relevant experience in fintech, financial services, or a regulatory environment.
  • Working knowledge of consumer finance and privacy laws (UDAAP, FCRA, TCPA, CCPA/CPRA, ECOA, Reg Z, etc.).
  • Experience handling commercial contracts and supporting cross-functional teams.
  • Strong independent judgment and ability to execute without constant oversight.

How You Work

  • You’re smart and ask thoughtful questions.
  • You’re genuinely interested in the intersection of law, product, and business.
  • You work hard, move quickly, and follow through.
  • You don’t get stuck…you find paths forward!
  • You find answers to questions by doing research.
  • You communicate confidently, clearly, and practically, not abstractly.

Compensation + Benefits

  • Expected Pay Range:  $150,000 – $200,000 (California)
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Daily catered lunch
  • Fully stocked kitchen with too many kinds of coffee and snacks

The pay range listed above represents what Leap Theory reasonably anticipates paying for this role at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary depending on factors such as experience, education, skill level, and current market conditions.
