Linux Systems, Hardware and Infrastructure Services Engineer (VP, SETI)
The Specialised Electronic Trading Infrastructure (SETI) team is looking for an experienced Linux, Hardware and Infrastructure services Engineer with a proven track record of designing, building and maintaining robust, resilient and scalable, infrastructure automation systems.

What you will do in this role:

  • Design, engineer and support Linux server-based solutions to enable our algorithmic trading business to operate in an efficient, effective and compliant manner.
  • Utilize advanced features of the Morgan Stanley Linux configuration platform to deliver and maintain system configurations unique to our line of business.
  • Evaluate specialized hardware components such as FPGAs for supportability in an enterprise environment, including liaison with vendors, and responsibility for ensuring drivers and firmware are kept up to date and patched against security vulnerabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with business-facing development groups, system administrators and other infrastructure engineers to implement and maintain appropriate solutions to reduce costs and manage technology risk for our business.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for our Linux-based electronic trading infrastructure platform.
  • Mentor, coach and lead less experienced engineers.
  • Provide technical leadership and vision for a small business-aligned team of system administrators and SREs.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of our infrastructure and working practices through regular reviews, blameless port-mortems and other SRE techniques

What you will bring to the role:

  • A comprehensive understanding of Linux systems administration, hardware and configuration management techniques.
  • Advanced Linux and network troubleshooting skills, including knowledge of standard debugging tools such as tcpdump and strace.
  • Experience using the Python programming language to automate common tasks and eliminate toil. Familiarity with standard software engineering concepts such as common data structures, regular expressions, and automated testing.
  • Experience with architecting large scale, robust, resilient and supportable systems.
  • Domain expertise in infrastructure automation and integration.
  • Familiarity with modern development tools and practices including agentic-workflows, git, jenkins, test-driven development, and continuous integration.
  • Can take full-lifecycle ownership of components within a project, from initial architecture design to ongoing support.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $155,000 and $215,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs
