Salary: $75,000 - $80,000

 

THE ROLE

The Manager of Digital Communications is responsible for the strategy and implementation of StoryCorps’ digital communications. The manager will lead the development and execution of comprehensive email marketing campaigns to support organizational goals, including audience engagement, retention, and revenue growth. This role will strategize, optimize, and manage email communications across multiple platforms, ensuring alignment with brand messaging, industry best practices, and data-driven insights. This role will also oversee the maintenance and updates of webpages. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in email marketing tools, a creative approach to storytelling, and a keen eye for analytics.

This role will report to the Director, Marketing Communications and Special Projects and will be working in close collaboration with the Development team to drive revenue growth. Additionally, this role will partner with the Integrated Marketing and Programs teams to drive awareness and engagement campaigns with StoryCorps’ core and initiative-based audiences. They will also work in close coordination with our Digital team to manage the email marketing platforms.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Email Strategy Development:

  Create and manage an organization-wide email marketing strategy that supports key objectives, including engagement, lead generation, and fundraising.

  Partner with the Individual Giving team on email strategy and fundraising initiatives.

  Develop content and audience segmentation plans to deliver personalized, impactful messaging to diverse stakeholders.

  Create and manage donor and user 'journeys,' such as first-time donor and participant series, in close collaboration with the Development team. This includes understanding the donor's progression from non-donor to active donor by identifying key touchpoints across the journey stages: awareness, consideration, decision, retention, and loyalty/advocacy.

  Partner with content, design, development, and marketing teams to produce cohesive, visually appealing email campaigns.

  Support cross-departmental initiatives by advising on email strategies and aligning efforts with broader organizational goals.

Email Campaign Strategy and Execution:

  Plan, build, and execute email campaigns, including newsletters, fundraising appeals, event invitations, to an audience of approximately 330,000 and develop workflows across organizational initiatives.

  Collaborate with cross-departmental stakeholders to develop campaign objectives, timelines, and creative assets.

 Email System Administration:

  Manage email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, HubSpot, or Salesforce Marketing Cloud), including experience with field and tag management to build and maintain audience segments, and ensuring data integration with CRM systems.

  Ensure compliance with email marketing laws (e.g., CAN-SPAM, GDPR) and maintain email deliverability best practices.

Analytics and Optimization:

  Experience with Google Anaytics, responsible for monitoring email campaign performance metrics (e.g., open rates, click-through rates, conversions) and generate regular reports with actionable insights.

  Conduct A/B testing on subject lines, content, layouts, and send times to improve effectiveness.

  Use data to refine strategies, enhance audience engagement, and increase ROI. 

Website Maintenance:

  Build and maintain donation pages, create homepage banners, and other digital assets to align with fundraising campaigns.

  Maintain and update the existing Initiative pages to ensure they are updated, optimized, and coordinated with initiative messaging and calls-to-action.

  Create Initiative web pages as needed, including conversation landing pages for each new monthly audio card for One Small Step.

Innovation and Trends:

  Stay current on industry trends, technologies, and best practices in email marketing and customer engagement.

  Recommend and implement new tools, techniques, and formats to enhance email marketing efforts. 

ABOUT YOU

 Required:

  Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field.

  3-5 years of experience in email marketing strategy and implementation, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.

  Skilled writer with a talent for crafting compelling stories that captivate and engage diverse audiences.

  Expertise with email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp, Campaign Monitor, Pardot, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Classy donation pages).

  Experience with analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) and CRM platforms including Hubspot.

  Experience managing websites; HTML and CSS knowledge is a plus.

  Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple campaigns simultaneously.

  Analytical mindset with a results-driven approach to problem-solving.

  Creative thinker who is comfortable working collaboratively and independently.

Preferred:

  Certification in email marketing or digital marketing.

  Experience managing email automation workflows and leading marketing campaigns.
