As a trailblazer in illustrated publishing since 1949, ABRAMS continues to set the standard for beautifully crafted books across art, design, culture, and children’s literature. We’re looking for a Marketing Designer to join our team! If you’re a creative thinker with a knack for innovation and a love for helping readers discover their next favorite book, this is your chance to thrive in a fun, collaborative, and inspiring environment.

The Marketing Designer role is a unique opportunity to design both print and digital marketing assets, defined and divided evenly between our bestselling and award-winning Adult and Children’s publishing lists and our Diary of a Wimpy Kid Book Publishing Program, including materials for festivals, events, conventions, and tours. The ideal candidate will have a solid knowledge of marketing and brand design with real-world experience. You’re a self-starter who’s unafraid to jump in and take initiative, and you thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment. You’re energized by the opportunity to develop competitive marketing designs and maintain the look of existing branded campaigns with established guidelines. You have excellent communication skills and are engaged with the analytics of campaigns to improve conversion. If you’re ready to bring your creativity, initiative, and eye for detail to a collaborative marketing team, we’d love to hear from you.

This position is a union role represented by UAW Local 2110 and is subject to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

What you’d be doing:

  • Dual reporting and actively supporting two managers: the Associate Creative Director, Marketing Design, and the Associate Art Director, Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
  • Develop, execute, and translate designs for branded marketing and publicity campaigns to support the release and backlist of key titles across all areas of the consumer experience, including retail promotions (digital and brick-and-mortar), floor displays, merchandising and promotional materials (paper and premium), print and digital advertising, social media assets, animated GIFs and eBlasts, book tour materials, etc.
  • Assist the Associate Directors on larger-scale campaigns, maintaining and/or expanding upon existing visual identities and designs supporting the Marketing, Brand, Publicity, and School & Library teams.
  • Own the creative process for assigned projects/campaigns from brief submission through routing, release, prototyping, and hard proofing, and maintain branded visual consistency across all campaign assets; liaise with Book Design to gather assets; brainstorm with team members as needed to define the scope of elements.
  • Manage the schedule for assigned projects, proactively tracking on-time release in collaboration with project managers, marketers, and team members; manage file organization, backups, and archiving within marketing design servers for assigned projects. Collaborate cross-departmentally and assist directors in supporting freelancers when needed.
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure all creative materials meet design objectives, partner requirements, and approval deadlines across multiple projects.
  • Share current best practices and trends in design, actively suggesting ways to incorporate these learnings into campaigns.

We’re looking for someone who is/has:

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite on a Mac platform, with strong skills in Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator (preferred; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word)
  • After Effects and/or motion graphics experience.
  • Working knowledge of print and digital file preparation and optimization, technical standards, color correction, design and manipulation of vector graphics, image retouching, and visual best practices, including layouts and typography, with familiarity in the Pantone Color System and color optimization of files.
  • Imaginative and innovative thinker, excited to push the creative envelope and experiment with new techniques and technologies.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented, and highly motivated, with the ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment.
  • Nimble multi-tasker with strong time management skills, comfortable shifting course and pivoting as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail, even when working quickly under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work with vendor-provided die-lines and templates for a wide range of promotional items, including corrugated materials and premium products.

Highly preferred candidates also have:

  • 5+ years of experience in marketing design and creative services.
  • Large-format file preparation experience and a broad scope Adobe Illustrator skill set.
  • Some familiarity with the current competitive publishing landscape.

This position is in New York, NY, and follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office presence three days per week.

The base salary range for this position is $67,626 - $73,000 per year. The final offer will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications.

What We Offer:

  • Generous paid holidays and Summer Fridays.
  • Company-paid year-end office closure between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day each year
  • Comprehensive health benefits, including short-term and long-term disability.
  • Retirement savings (401k) and life insurance.
