The Strategic Events Manager oversees planning and execution of strategic events in the AMER region, ensuring alignment with business objectives and managing all program components from messaging to post-event analysis.

The Role

The Strategic Events Manager is a key member of the Global Strategic Events team, responsible for planning and executing MongoDB's strategic events portfolio with a primary focus on programs in the AMER region, while partnering to support global priority programs and working closely with teams across MongoDB to deliver cohesive, high-impact event experiences that support broader business objectives.

This role leads AMER execution for flagship owned and sponsored events, and works across the full global portfolio as team priorities require. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and strong operator who can translate global objectives into executional excellence.

We are looking to speak to candidates who are based in Austin for our hybrid working model or the United States remotely.

Who You Are

You care about the customer experience, not just the logistics behind it. You understand that every program detail, from how registration flows to how a room is set up, is something a customer actually experiences. You sweat those details because you know they matter, and you're relentless about delivering on your commitments.

You embrace reality. You're clear-eyed about what's working and what isn't, you have the courage to say so, and you don't let bias or wishful thinking get in the way of making the right call. You make decisions under pressure, own the outcome either way, and communicate honestly when things don't go to plan.

You take ownership seriously. You demand a lot from yourself, you balance working independently with knowing when to pull others in, and you don't confuse being busy with making things matter. When something is above your lane, you escalate fast and cleanly. When it's yours to solve, you solve it.

This team takes their work seriously, cares about doing it well, and is genuinely good at it. If that sounds like your kind of environment, you'll fit right in.

Responsibilities

Program Ownership and Execution

  • Lead end-to-end planning and execution of assigned programs, with a primary focus on AMER flagship and high-complexity sponsored events
  • Make independent decisions within established policy
  • Drive full coordination across all program components, such as:

    • Post-event reporting and ROI analysis
  • Apply judgment to identify and resolve day-to-day operational issues, including those without established precedent, and communicate decisions and trade-offs clearly to stakeholders.
  • Support global programs as assigned, collaborating with regional counterparts across the team

Cross-functional Alignment

  • Drive alignment across Revenue Marketing, Developer Relations, Engineering, Executive Support, and other teams; escalate decisions that extend beyond program scope or require cross-team policy input
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Event Operations team on campaign creation, lead flow management, and sponsorship sales and fulfillment
  • Communicate program status, risks, and trade-offs clearly and proactively to internal stakeholders

Budget and Performance

  • Own budgets for assigned events and track spend against plan throughout the program lifecycle
  • Evaluate program ROI and deliver post-event wrap-up reports with insights and recommendations for future iterations
  • Contribute analysis and program learnings to broader planning discussions

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement improvements within your programs
  • Share learnings and propose process refinements to team members based on patterns observed across your work
  • Escalate cross-team risks and policy exceptions with a clear recommendation
Success Measures
  • Event registrations, attendance, and pipeline generated
  • Customer satisfaction (NPS)
  • Program delivery quality, predictability, and on-time execution

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable communicating trade-offs and escalating risks to senior stakeholders
  • Experience working independently in a global, distributed team environment
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Slack, Zoom, and Cvent
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25% domestically and globally
Bonus Points
  • Experience in technology or SaaS environments
