Resource Innovations is seeking an experienced Marketing Principal to lead marketing strategy, client relationships, and account management teams for our Eastern region. This role is responsible for setting direction, elevating the quality of work, and developing high-performing teams across a portfolio of utility clients and programs. It is ideal for someone who brings agency experience, strong client leadership skills, and looking for the opportunity to deliver meaningful, high-quality work that makes a real impact. 

As a Marketing Principal, you will oversee all Eastern marketing accounts, serve as a trusted partner to clients and internal stakeholders, and lead an Account Management team responsible for day-to-day execution, including online and offline marketing, events, lead generation, email marketing and paid and social media. This role reports into our Sr. Director, Marketing Client Services and plays a critical part in advancing Resource Innovations’ internal agency model—bringing agency-caliber strategic thinking, creative excellence, and disciplined execution to large-scale energy efficiency and energy transformation programs. This role is the same level as an Account Director within agencies.

This is a highly visible leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy, leadership, client partnership, and growth. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 8-years marketing experience. Agency experience is preferred.

Lead Regional Marketing Strategy & Client Partnerships 

  • Serve as a senior marketing leader for the East region, accountable for the overall success, quality, and impact of marketing across all assigned utility programs
  • Act as a trusted advisor to utility clients and internal program leaders, guiding strategic direction and shaping long-term marketing approaches
  • Lead and elevate strategic conversations, identifying insights and opportunities that drive stronger customer engagement and program performance 

Drive Strategic Thinking & Big Ideas 

  • Lead teams in developing and delivering strategic recommendations, marketing plans, and integrated campaign approaches
  • Author and oversee high-level points of view (POVs) that connect business objectives, customer insights, data, and creative strategy
  • Ensure ideas are grounded in program goals and business realities, serving as a constant strategic and executional “reality check”
  • Guide teams in shaping, refining, and selling ideas—both internally and externally 

Oversee Account & Portfolio Performance 

  • Provide oversight across multiple accounts, ensuring work is on strategy, on time, on budget, and meeting quality standards
  • Anticipate challenges, manage risk, and proactively address issues before they impact clients or teams
  • Partner with program leadership to support account growth, scope expansion, and long-term client success 

Lead, Inspire & Develop High-Performing Teams 

  • Directly manage and mentor account management staff across the region
  • Establish clear expectations for performance, quality, and collaboration
  • Act as a motivator and culture carrier—energizing teams, reinforcing accountability, and fostering pride in the work
  • Identify growth opportunities for team members, provide ongoing coaching and feedback, and support career development
  • Create a positive, inclusive work environment built on trust, respect, and shared ownership 

Elevate the Work & Drive Continuous Improvement 

  • Challenge teams to push beyond “good” to deliver excellent, thoughtful, and effective marketing
  • Ask the right questions to sharpen thinking and improve outcomes
  • Bring the right resources together at the right time to grow and strengthen ideas
  • Drive continuous improvement across processes, tools, and ways of working within the internal agency

Support Growth & Regional Leadership 

  • Partner with business and program leaders to identify opportunities for marketing-led growth within the Midwest region
  • Help pre-sell and pave the way for new initiatives, expansions, and pilot efforts
  • Use data, performance insights, and client needs to help shape future opportunities


Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (BBA, BA, or BS) in Marketing, Business, Communications, Digital Media, Digital Marketing or a related field/equivalent experience required 
  • 8+ years of experience in marketing, client services, or account leadership
  • Agency experience strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to lead multiple accounts, complex teams, and client relationships simultaneously
  • Strong strategic thinker with the ability to translate insights into actionable, compelling recommendations
  • Demonstrated success developing and managing high-performing teams
  • Confidence presenting to and influencing clients and internal leadership
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to author and deliver strategic presentations and POVs
  • Strong judgment, emotional intelligence, and ability to navigate complex stakeholder dynamics 
  • Experience managing planning processes, scopes, budgets, and performance at a portfolio level
  • Primarily Remote position with the ability and expectation to travel up to 10% of the time, mainly for in-person events

Compensation & Benefits

Resource Innovations offers competitive salaries based on a candidate's skills, experience and qualifications for the position.  The compensation range for the base salary for this position is $109,000- $135,000. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus.  The stated salary represents the expected compensation for this position. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as the candidate's experience, education and location.
