ABOUT THE TEAM

theSkimm is hiring a full-time Director of Social Media to expand our brand presence and engage our audience across social media platforms. Reporting to our Managing Editor of News, this role is creative meets data. You will be responsible for developing social media content that fosters a deep sense of community and grows both brand engagement and revenue. You will manage a small team of social media producers and will collaborate closely with theSkimm’s Video, Audio, Editorial, Design, Sales, and Marketing teams.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Leading overall social media strategy for official brand accounts (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) for all content initiatives: news, money, well, career, branded, audio, video, marketing
  • Directing the creative and editorial operations of all organic and sponsored social media content
  • Leading pitch meetings to optimize timely news and culture content and setting the posting schedule across multiple social media channels
  • Managing a team of Social Media Producers and creating clear processes and operations for the team
  • Editing and approving all social media posts, ensuring alignment with voice, brand, and content tentpoles
  • Establishing theSkimm’s news presence on social - developing a clear distinction and purpose between it and our other news platforms
  • Analyzing performance data and innovating the social strategy to optimize and grow performance metrics
  • Creating the high-level social strategy for large-scale marketing and content campaigns
  • Representing our social channels in cross-departmental meetings 
  • Administering all third-party and internal social media tools and content management systems

WHAT WOULD SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS

  • 6-8 years of social media experience with a proven track record of increasing audience engagement, building brand equity, and driving revenue growth 
  • Expertise in publishing content for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn
  • Experience leading strategy and execution for a news & information, consumer, and/or emerging brand
  • Superior news judgement, research, and fact-checking expertise
  • Experience working with breaking news deadlines and ability to be on-call for breaking news over the weekend
  • Strong managerial skills and the ability to uphold an environment of learning, growth, and mentorship within a growing team
  • A player/coach mentality who can think big picture while still getting your hands dirty
  • Expertise and passion for culture, trends, and new media ventures

WHAT WOULD SET YOU APART

  • A strong understanding of theSkimm’s brand and voice and ability to communicate its message with consistency
  • Art direction experience in graphic design, illustration, videography, and/or photography
  • Experience executing on branded content
  • Knowledge of copyright laws for social media publishing 
  • Experience with Dash Hudson, Figma, Falcon, CrowdTangle, Instagram Insights, and Asana
