Develop and maintain two production React Native mobile apps for doctors and patients. Build features, optimize performance, debug across JS and native layers, implement native integrations (Swift/Kotlin), use AI-assisted development tools, write tests, and collaborate asynchronously on a fully remote team.
The summary above was generated by AI

We’re looking for a mobile developer with at least 4 years of experience in React Native and JavaScript/TypeScript to help us take our mobile applications further by building new features, improving performance, and maintaining existing codebases across our healthcare products.

You need to be comfortable using AI-assisted development tools as part of your day-to-day engineering workflow. We actively explore ways to use AI to improve development speed, code quality, debugging, testing, and engineering processes, while still expecting developers to understand, validate, and take ownership of the code they ship.

The Job

Your main focus will be working on two core mobile applications we run in the healthcare industry: one for doctors and one for patients. These apps are already in production and actively used, so the work involves both feature development and long-term technical improvements.

Some work may also involve platform-specific integrations or features that require bridging to native iOS (Swift) or Android (Kotlin) code. Where needed, you will have the space to learn and collaborate on areas outside your comfort zone.

You will start with smaller tasks to help you understand the scope of the applications. As you become more familiar with the system, you will take on more complex work, including performance tuning, refactoring, debugging production issues, and improving application architecture.

AI-assisted development is part of how we work. You’ll be encouraged to use tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar AI coding tools to help investigate issues, understand unfamiliar code, implement and review changes, write tests, automate repetitive tasks, and improve existing workflows.

We don’t expect AI to replace engineering judgment. You should be comfortable reviewing AI-generated code critically, understanding what it does, identifying incorrect assumptions, and taking responsibility for the final implementation.

You will be part of a fully remote team that works primarily through text-based communication tools such as backlogs, wikis, GitHub, and Slack. Strong asynchronous communication is essential for this position. You should be able to explain your thinking clearly, document technical decisions, and collaborate effectively with the team.

Some of the technologies and tools we use include: React Native, TypeScript, GraphQL, Apollo, React Query, Stripe, Twilio, S3, Sentry, Swift, Kotlin, GitHub, and AI-assisted development tools.

Skills

Developers have different strengths in different areas. Here are some of the categories we assess candidates on. Strength in one area can offset weakness in another.

  • Strong experience with React Native and JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Experience working with production mobile applications
  • Solid understanding of how mobile apps behave across different states, including navigation flows, background/foreground transitions, authentication, networking, and state persistence
  • Familiarity with Apollo, React Query, or similar data libraries
  • Familiarity with native development using Swift or Kotlin
  • Experience debugging complex issues across JavaScript and native layers
  • Experience with camera functionality, file uploads, or native bridging is a plus (AVFoundation, CoreImage)
  • Experience with Twilio, S3, or monitoring tools such as Sentry is a plus
  • Experience with healthcare-related development or integrations is a plus
  • Experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools as part of a real development workflow
  • Ability to critically review and validate AI-generated code rather than treating AI output as automatically correct
  • Experience using AI for tasks beyond code generation, such as debugging, code review, testing, documentation, or workflow automation is a plus
  • Experience creating reusable AI workflows, agents, skills, prompts, or development automations is a plus
Position

This is a full-time remote position. We’re used to working as a dispersed team, so you must be cool with collaborating online and a lot over text. We’re flexible on schedules, but at least 4 hours of overlap with a core of your team is mandatory.
