Willamette Mission State Park - Oregon State Parks

Gervais, Oregon at the Valleys Region office. Responsibilities of the role extend throughout the entire Valleys Region, providing support and coverage across all assigned parks and operational areas within the region.

Your New Role

As a permanent, full-time, Natural Resource Specialist 2, you will support regional staff by helping improve program delivery, efficiency, and on‑the‑ground park operations. You’ll collaborate across the state and provide assistance in areas such as volunteer management, interpretive services, partnerships, special events, and outdoor recreation programs. Your work will directly support the mission of Oregon State Parks and help strengthen one of the best park systems in the world.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in natural resources or environmental science, AND a Bachelor's degree in natural resources, environmental science, or similar program, or three additional years of related natural resource experience;

OR

  • One year of experience in natural resources or environmental science, AND a Master's degree in natural resources, environmental science, or similar program.

Special Requirements:

  • To be hired, a criminal record and driving record check must be completed that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment while also maintaining a valid driver’s license.

Desired Attributes:

  • Ability to independently perform technical and administrative program support, develop procedures, and recommend program improvements.

  • Skill in developing, delivering, and evaluating complex interpretive programs and planning interpretive services.

  • Ability to train, coach, and evaluate permanent, seasonal, and volunteer staff in interpretive techniques and presentation quality.

  • Skill in managing volunteer programs, including training staff, assessing program structure, and communicating effectively in challenging situations.

  • Experience collaborating statewide to develop standards and coordinate partnerships and special events aligned with agency goals.

  • Ability to administer contracts to ensure products and services meet required specifications.

  • Strong communication and computer skills, including preparing clear written materials and delivering effective presentations.

  • Experience working effectively and collaboratively with Oregon’s federally recognized tribes.
