The Irish Star is looking for freelance News Reporters to research, write, and deliver news content for our digital audience.
This is a freelance independent contractor engagement. Contributors retain full discretion over how they structure and develop their work, subject to editorial standards required for publication. Work is performed on a deliverables-based basis rather than a fixed schedule or employment arrangement.
Engagement Scope
Contributors will be responsible for producing publish-ready news content in line with editorial requirements.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Identifying, researching, and developing news stories independently
- Producing accurate, high quality written journalism across assigned topics
- Delivering completed articles with agreed deadlines
- Collaborating with editors as needed to prepare content for publication
All work is outcome-based and not subject to set working hours or shift scheduling.
Who we are looking for
- Demonstrated experience producing journalism for a national or major regional publication
- Strong ability to independently identify and develop news stories
- Excellent research, writing, and storytelling skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage workload independently
- Working knowledge of media law, including libel, copyright, and privacy considerations
- Formal journalism or communications training is preferred but not required
This opportunity is suited to self-directed freelance journalists who can manage their own workflow and deliver high-quality content independently.
