The Operating Shift Supervisor is required to read, understand, and to be proficient in all LNG Plant and Hunts Point Compressor Station operating, maintenance, training, emergency response, security and contingency procedures and supervise the correct implementation, by operating personnel, of these procedures ensuring safe and continuous operation of both facilities under normal, as well as abnormal conditions. Incumbent will supervise LNG facility liquefaction, vaporization, maintenance, and inspection operations.
This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.
ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilities- Responsible to serve as Deputy Safety Director on respective shift
- Will ensure all daily operations, inspections, and testing is in accordance with LNG and Hunts Point specifications, and plans
- Assign, verify, and document daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semiannual, and annual maintenance and inspections in plant log books, computer files, and work management system, as required
- Complete the update of assigned operating procedures and contribute to the updating of non-assigned procedures to ensure correct plant operations.
- Perform daily facility walk around to ensure plant fitness, cleanliness, EH&S requirements
- Ensure personnel and contractor comply with all EH&S policies and procedures
- Direct and oversee employee and contractor field activities, ensuring assigned work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures
- Ensure contractors and other company departments perform and adhere to safety and security procedures
- Serves as field authority for all physical threats and safety issues until relieved by higher authority
- Completes all required accidents, incidents, injuries, security, etc. reports
- Obtain and maintain FDNY Certificate of Fitness to operate the LNG plant and Hunts Point compressor station
- Successfully complete Massachusetts Fire Fighting Academy
- Stay proficient in all LNG plant and Hunts Point compressor station operating, maintenance, training, and contingency procedures
- Ability to work in a 24/7 operational environment 12 hour rotating shift
- Remain clean-shaven, fit-tested and medically approved to wear a respirator, including SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus)
- Will be subject to initial psychological screening and annual physicals in accordance with Federal Code
- Provide and complete accurate shift transfers to ensure all personnel are aware of any change in daily plant operations and/or status
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required
- Perform energy isolation Stop/Tag procedures
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2 years of relevant full-time work experience or
- Associate's Degree in applied Science or Mechanical/Electrical Technology and a minimum of 4 years of relevant full-time work experience or
- High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 5 years of relevant full-time work experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering and a minimum of 4 years of relevant full-time work experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain FDNY Certificate of Fitness to operate the LNG plant and Hunts Point compressor station, required
- Technical or operational work experience in Gas, Electric or Power Generation, required
- Ability to interpret procedures, plans & drawings, required
- Knowledge of cryogenics, preferred
- Knowledge of LNG, preferred
- Knowledge of LNG plant operations, preferred
- Knowledge of pumps, fans, compressors, motors, fire equipment and electric equipment, control system, preferred
- Ability to inspire and develop staff
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision making skills
- Well organized, detail oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments
- Driver's License Required
- Other: Obtain and maintain current SCBA training Required
- Other: NYFD Certificate of Fitness for the LNG Plant and the Hunt's Point Compressor Station 1 Year Required
- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Work in, under, and on top of all types of company vehicles and/or equipment
- Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs
- Ability to work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, catwalks, roofs, and/or other equipment
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
- Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays
- Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
- Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Pass an annual DOT/LNG physical exam and respirator fit test
- Successfully complete a psychological evaluation
- Ability to successfully complete formal LNG fire fighting school
