Your role in one sentence

You'll learn to own the money in motion at Ripple Street — what we pay, what we're owed, and the numbers leadership makes decisions on — while building a real handle on how a marketing-services business runs end to end.

Who you are
  • You want to own the function, not a piece of it. You have run accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and a month-end close, and you would rather hold the whole cycle than be handed one corner of it. When something upstream looks wrong, you follow it back instead of booking it and moving on.

  • You are curious about the business, not just the ledger. Every invoice you code belongs to something real: a brand campaign, a sampling program, a room full of people getting a product into their hands for the first time. Knowing which is which is most of what makes the numbers worth having.

  • You are comfortable growing into Independence. Our Head of Finance is not in the New York office. You will be trained and supported closely as you ramp up, but the honest shape of this job, once you are up to speed, is high trust and high visibility, with nobody standing behind you on the tenth of the month. Some people find that freeing and some do not, and it is worth knowing which one you are before you apply.

  • You are careful with what you know. Payroll, commissions, compensation, employee data. This seat sees all of it, every cycle. Discretion here is not a policy you follow, it is a habit you already have.

  • You are good with people on the other end of an invoice. You will talk to our clients about what they owe us and to our vendors about what we owe them. Both are relationships, not transactions, and how you handle them is part of how Ripple Street gets experienced.

  • You run on structure. Weekly cash reporting, monthly close, renewal dates, trackers. You build the checklist, you keep it current, and deadlines do not arrive as surprises.

  • You believe in being in the room. We are on-site four days a week in New York, half-day remote. Finance touches every team here, and most of what you need to know moves faster in a hallway than in a thread.

  • You want to grow with the business, not just the job. This is an entry point, not a ceiling. You are genuinely curious about how a marketing-services company works — clients, vendors, events, people — and you want your understanding of the business to grow at the same pace as your finance skills. Where this role goes next is shaped by how far you take it.

Why this role exists

Ripple Street is built on something brands cannot manufacture: real people, using real products, telling real people about it. Behind every one of those campaigns is money in motion. Vendors to pay, events to cost out, clients to invoice, a close to land on time.

That makes the job broad on purpose. You are not one of four accountants dividing up a ledger. In this office, you are the finance function: the person who knows where cash stands, what a given event actually cost, and which client has not paid. It is a lot of surface area for one person, which is exactly why we are hiring for judgment rather than for a narrow skill.

So this is an ownership role with high autonomy and a high bar. Direct access to leadership, short decision chains, no layers between you and the work. What we ask in return is that you take the function, run it, and improve it.

What you'll actually doOwn what we pay
  • Receive vendor invoices, work directly with vendors on questions, and enter them into QuickBooks

  • Cross-reference COGS-related expenses against event-level P&Ls, and run approvals and open questions through the operations team

  • Reconcile invoices against the P&L with line-item event and contract attribution

  • Review and code debit card purchases, with event attribution in QuickBooks

  • Process employee expense reports and payments

Own what we're owed
  • Review SOWs and the P&L for billing accuracy before anything goes out the door

  • Create project and contract entries in QuickBooks and generate client invoices

  • Act as the client contact on invoicing and payment status, and follow up on what is outstanding

Run payroll
  • Process payroll, including commissions, bonuses, and paid-time-off payments

  • Keep compensation and employee data accurate, current, and confidential

Close the month
  • Update the supporting trackers: Event COGS, Deal Tracker, Commission Tracker

  • Post month-end transactions in QuickBooks, including payroll journal entries

  • Perform bank reconciliations

  • Prepare the monthly deliverables: COGS Allocation Tracker, Deferred Revenue Schedule, and P&L

Give the business its numbers
  • Maintain the weekly cash report, so leadership always knows where cash stands

  • Prepare weekly accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash reporting for management

  • Deliver event-level P&L visibility to the marketing and operations teams on a set cadence, so the people spending the money can see what it returned

Keep the office running (secondary scope)
  • Coordinate G&A vendors, including rent and lease administration, insurance renewals, and utilities, under the direction of leadership

  • Track renewal dates and contract terms, and flag deadlines early rather than managing renewals independently

  • Support routine employee coordination on HR matters such as onboarding logistics and paid-time-off questions, referring anything sensitive or non-routine to the appropriate lead

What you'll need to do this job wellThe core
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. This is the one requirement we will not flex on. Everything else on this list, we can teach.

  • Some exposure to QuickBooks or a comparable accounting system — coursework, an internship, or a class project all count. You do not need to be fluent yet, but you should be someone who picks up new tools quickly.

  • Working knowledge of Excel or Google Sheets, built through coursework, an internship, or your own initiative. Much of this job runs on trackers you will maintain, and should improve.

  • Some exposure to the finance function — through an internship, coursework, or a first job — touching accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, or a close process, even if you were not the one landing it solo.

  • Clear written and verbal communication. You will be client-facing on invoicing and vendor-facing on G&A, and both of those reflect on us.

  • Sound judgment on confidential information. Payroll and compensation data pass through this seat every cycle.

What will stand out
  • Internship or work experience in martech, adtech, or with a CPG brand. Not required — just a preference, since it means the world you would be walking into will not feel unfamiliar.

  • Experience costing projects or events against a line-item budget or P&L, even from a class project or internship.

  • Currently pursuing a CPA, or planning to. We are glad to support that path once you are here.

  • A class project, part-time job, or internship where you built or meaningfully improved a process, tracker, or spreadsheet, rather than just used one someone else built.

  • Coursework or hands-on exposure to QuickBooks, Xero, or a comparable accounting system.

  • Some exposure to office administration or HR coordination (a genuine nice-to-have, not a requirement)

Logistics
  • Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 based on experience and qualifications, plus insurance under the company's group benefits plan

  • Location: 205 W 37th Street, New York, NY. On-site four days a week, half-day remote.

  • Employment type: Full-time, permanent

  • Reports to: Head of Finance
