Are you passionate about making NYC a better place to visit, live in and move around in? Motivate LLC, operator of Citi Bike, seeks an energized, experienced Operations Director to continue to make Citi Bike the best bike share system in the world and NYC’s favorite ride.  This person will have to a senior leadership position with C level visibility. They will be responsible for continuously improving the department’s performance, total system and/or service area growth, and managing the projects that drive many different initiatives.

 

This Operations Director will oversee two teams of technical and maintenance service employees for the entire New York City system, including 800+ stations and 26,000 dock locking mechanisms, by utilizing technician staff to accomplish tasks and projects.  They will also oversee the planning and execution of on-going operations and capital projects while managing clients, contractors, business partner relations and agreements. This person will be responsible for planning, installation, relocation and structural maintenance of Citi Bike stations throughout NYC.

About the Role:

 

  • Work under the management of the General Manager to ensure Citi Bike meets its business goals and client SLAs

  • Oversee various improvement initiatives related to training, process, equipment, and staffing.

  • Lead a team of mix leveled managers and their respective teams of union hourly staff, to maintain station technology and maintenance, assembly and deployment operations, quality control, KPIs and complete capital projects.

  • Initiate and complete data analyses ranging from physical product, field operations, workflow efficiency, vehicle and facility usage, and other relevant topics.

  • Maintain external relations, growing positive and productive relationships with clients and city partners, related to system status and equipment placement through regular communications of implementation and progress.

  • Maintain a close working relationship with all Citi Bike department heads to assist with the implementation of strategic initiatives, as well as future planning and budgeting.

  • Assist with internal and external reporting as needed.

  • Occasionally travel to other bike share systems and related locations to gather best practices, share our own lessons learned, and to seek out new innovations and technologies.

  • Follow safe work practices and maintain a safe working environment.

  • Plan, prepare and execute various systemwide undertakings related to stations and other specialized equipment throughout the Citi Bike system.

  • Review and implement processes to further increase efficiency in obtaining goals and team management strategies.

  • Engage in system preservation before and recovery after adverse weather events or other system shutdowns.

  • Report out to the CEO on a monthly basis to give updates on operations performance.

 

 

About You:

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, Planning, Business, Operations or related field.  

  • You are a wiz in Excel, Word, Microsoft Project, Google Applications, and can learn and master new software quickly.

  • You have a minimum of 10 years total experience, including at least 3 years of hands-on experience in an operational role.  Must have experience managing large operations teams.

  • You have expert level knowledge of project management.

  • You thrive in a fast-paced, high stress, high demand environments.  You can quickly adapt, think critically and react effectively in dynamic construction and maintenance project environments.

  • You understand the basic concepts of engineering, electrical and mechanical equipment, multi-part assembly, quality control, supply chain, finance, and accounting.

  • High learning agility for both IT and process-based functions.

  • You are an excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • You get excited about working both in the corporate HQ, in the field with the team and in the Station Ops office in East Williamsburg. 

  • You have a valid NYS Driver’s License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.

  • You know the layout and geography of New York City like the back of your hand. 

  • You are prepared for this non traditional 9-5 role and understand you must be flexible and able to scale up and down to meet the needs of this seasonal business

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Advanced degree or MBA preferred or commensurate work experience

  • Previous experience working with clients and C suite leadership.

  • Experience with or understanding of heavy machinery, construction equipment,  and large vehicles, as well as the occupational safety requirements that go along with the equipment.

  • Previous warehousing, supply chain, and inventory control experience.

 

Related fields include: Project management, construction management, supply chain management, public/private partnership relations, equipment assembly and deployment, facilities and safety, vehicle fleet management, large field team operations management, and business partner relations.

 

Projects include system expansion, equipment reallocation, on-going maintenance, coordination with clients and various public and private contractors in response to ongoing bike share infrastructure upgrades and special event needs.  Alongside Station Technology, Assembly, and Deployment you will receive exposure to all aspects of the business, including Bicycle Fleet, Service Delivery, Customer Service, Marketing, Accounting and Finance, Human Resources, and physical product engineering and back-end infrastructure.
