Tribune Publishing is hiring a Vice President, Privacy to lead our privacy compliance, education, and protection strategy across all businesses and geographies we conduct business. This is a senior level role tasked with the responsibility of ensuring the protection and proper usage of all data, including consumer, in our possession. This position is perfect for the overachiever who loves working in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment to drive change while rolling up their sleeves on a day-to-day basis. Our ideal candidate has experience with GDPR analysis and implementation within the media and e-commerce industry.

Responsibilities

  • Develops privacy approach for consumer data and deploys associated policies and procedures
  • Evaluates, leads, and drives accountability for GDPR (to the extent applicable), CCPA and future regulation compliance work streams which span stakeholders in advertising, marketing, analytics, IT, and legal
  • Monitors and responds to legislative changes through regular review and revision of policies/documentation and internal procedures, ensuring compliance with international, federal, and state laws
  • Create data governance structures to assure that the use of technologies maintain, and do not erode, privacy protections on use, collection and disclosure of personal information
  • Manage response on all complaints concerning the organization’s privacy policies and procedures in coordination with other departments and, when necessary, legal counsel
  • Implements a vendor management process for ensuring that all agreements have appropriate data security and privacy terms and surrounding processes for auditing and maintaining adherence
  • Works with the business to ensure knowledge of all business data collection and use cases
  • Reviews data mapping and leads privacy audit activities
  • Conducts data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) if / when it becomes necessary
  • Partners with organizational leadership to implement change/create new processes for data handling for compliance with laws and internal policies
  • Provides periodic reporting to corporate leadership, the CEO, and Board
  • Leads awareness and training efforts as needed and/or required to increase employee understanding of company privacy policies, data handling practices and procedures, and legal obligations. Work aggressively to evolve the company’s privacy maturity model
  • Communicates with regulators, vendors, and potentially media
  • Develops relationships with regulators and other government officials responsible for privacy and data security issues
  • Serves as the company’s Privacy leader and expert and represent the company’s information privacy interests with external parties and thought leadership forums

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience in the privacy profession with an in-depth knowledge of global privacy laws and experience with building, implementing, and maintaining a global privacy program
  • Advanced business (MBA) or law degree preferred with a focus in general business, public policy, data sciences, or regulatory compliance
  • Working knowledge of data collection practices and standards with an understanding of implications across business units
  • Expert knowledge of privacy laws and practices;
  • The ability to articulate privacy across the organization and drive awareness and adoption as required
  • Excellent analytical and judgement skills
  • Must have a comprehensive understanding of compliance frameworks and security standards, enabling technologies, and enterprise applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and externally to vendors, partners, the media, and regulators
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and changing requirements
  • Excellent change management skills with the ability to develop strategy, evaluate efficacy, influence stakeholders, drive implementation, and measure success
  • Must be able to effectively collaborate and direct the work of others
