The Daily Beast is seeking a dynamic and dedicated P.M. Editor to join our team. The Daily Beast is a leading digital news site known for its fearless and incisive reporting. We cover breaking news, politics, pop culture, and more with a distinctive voice that engages a dedicated audience.

About the Role

The Daily Beast is seeking a P.M. Editor to help our dynamic newsroom. The ideal candidate will have experience in journalism, a sharp editorial eye, and the ability to drive compelling and impactful news coverage, in the key hours of the day starting at 2 p.m.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee news coverage, ensuring timely, accurate and engaging reporting. 
  • Writing brilliant headlines which compel readers to read intelligently written stories.
  • Managing and mentoring an ambitious team of reporters.
  • Working closely with our brilliant Visuals department to make every story sparkle.
  • Assigning and editing stories, providing guidance to reporters to produce high-quality content. Must also be comfortable with writing breaking news when needed.
  • Monitoring news trends to stay ahead of the competition.
  • Curating the Daily Beast’s homepage and updating social feeds with fresh content.
  • Maintaining high journalistic standards and uphold The Daily Beast's editorial voice.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in journalism, with at least 2 years in an editing role.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Strong news judgment and the ability to make quick editorial decisions.
  • Deep understanding of digital media and audience engagement strategies.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with a small team.

Pay Range Salary

The pay range for this position is $105,000 to $120,000.

The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, performance and other factors. The range listed is just one component of the Daily Beast’s total compensation package. The Daily Beast provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, 401K employer matching program, paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO).
