Job Summary
We are seeking an immigration paralegal to assist an immigration attorney with offering legal clinics, screenings, and application submissions to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for recently arrived immigrant clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and lead regularly scheduled legal clinics and know your rights workshops to empower recently arrived immigrant clients with essential knowledge regarding navigating the U.S. immigration legal system and application processes.
- Complete a variety of legal support tasks using a client-centered approach which may include conducting client phone screenings and intake interviews.
- Assist with appointment scheduling and ensure consultations, meetings, and appearances with prospective clients are appropriately tracked, including hearings, and interview deadlines (to include EOIR, BIA, USCIS, etc.)
- Assist attorney and possible BIA-accredited representatives in preparing and filing immigration applications with USCIS.
- Arrange language access services for clients.
- Communicate regularly with other help center service providers and with clients and potential clients to obtain and complete information on different matters.
- Assist with the recording and reporting of services provided by the program and the management of client records.
- Other tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- With a two-year college degree or a paralegal certificate program recognized by the American Bar Association: at least two years of experience in a legal office performing paralegal tasks required; or
- Without a two-year college degree/paralegal certificate: at least four years of experience in a legal office performing paralegal tasks required.
- Fluency in Spanish is highly preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage with individuals from all walks of life.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, google docs, and capability to use case management software.
- Ability to manage time effectively, multi-task, determine priorities, and work independently and collaboratively.
