About the Role

Pagaya is seeking a Senior Partnerships & Product Counsel to lead the legal structuring, negotiation, and execution of Pagaya’s most strategic, revenue-generating partnerships and embedded finance products.

This role sits at the intersection of product development, consumer credit regulation, and complex commercial deal-making. You will act as the primary legal owner for high-impact partnerships, advising on product launches, distribution and servicing models, asset acquisition arrangements, and go-to-market strategy in a highly regulated fintech environment.

The ideal candidate is a commercially minded lawyer who is comfortable operating with significant autonomy, balancing legal risk with business objectives, and partnering closely with Product, Growth, Risk, Compliance, Capital Markets, and Technology teams.

This role reports directly to the Chief Legal Officer and is based in New York.

Responsibilities

  • Own the legal strategy, structuring, negotiation, and execution of Pagaya’s most complex and strategic partnership agreements, including embedded finance, asset acquisition, servicing, and distribution arrangements.

  • Serve as the primary legal partner to Product and Growth teams on new product launches and feature development, translating regulatory requirements into scalable, commercially viable structures.

  • Advise on U.S. consumer credit and fintech regulatory considerations impacting products and partnerships, working closely with Compliance and Risk teams to identify, mitigate, and allocate risk.

  • Structure and negotiate sophisticated commercial models with banks, fintech platforms, and other financial institutions, including arrangements involving loan ownership, servicing responsibilities, data sharing, and risk allocation.

  • Provide practical legal guidance on marketing, branding, and customer-facing initiatives (including digital and direct mail) in connection with partner launches and go-to-market efforts.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Capital Markets, Risk, Compliance, Product, Growth, and Technology teams to design programs that are compliant, scalable, and commercially effective.

  • Monitor regulatory developments affecting consumer lending and related financial products, and proactively advise the business on implications and opportunities.

  • Act as a trusted legal advisor to senior business leaders, helping evaluate risk, prioritize opportunities, and drive execution in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of legal experience at a top law firm and/or in-house, with significant experience leading and negotiating complex commercial or financial services transactions (candidates with materially more experience are encouraged to apply).

  • Experience advising on consumer credit, lending, fintech, or other regulated financial products, with the ability to identify regulatory risk and partner effectively with Compliance and Risk teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead bespoke, high-stakes transactions involving regulated counterparties.

  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills, with sound commercial judgment.

  • Business-oriented mindset and comfort balancing legal rigor with practical execution.

  • Experience working cross-functionally with Product, Growth, Risk, Compliance, and/or Capital Markets teams.

  • Experience advising on marketing and advertising matters is a plus but not required.

  • Admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (New York preferred).

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).

The pay ranges for New York-based hires are commensurate with candidate experience.

Pay ranges for candidates working in locations other than New York may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.
