Job Description

Salary Ranges: 8,800,000 - 10,500,000 JPY Annual + RSUs

We are looking for a Payment Operations Product Specialist in Japan to join our APAC team and take ownership of the Japan market. This is a unique opportunity to have a direct impact on Wise’s mission, helping us build sustainable cross-border products that save millions of people money.

Overview: 

As a Payment Operations Product Specialist, you will ensure our products in Japan are efficient, scalable, and operationally sound. You will act as the bridge between our Product, Engineering, and Operations teams, translating complex challenges into streamlined systems and processes. While Japan will be your primary focus, you will also contribute your expertise to strategic initiatives in other key APAC markets.

Your Mission: 

  • Own the Japan Payment Scheme: Manage the end-to-end maintenance of our Japanese payment schemes. This includes resolving technical issues, generating reports in Japanese, coordinating new launches, and working with Engineering and Finance to manage scheme compliance and risk.
  • Strategic Execution & Impact: Align your work with Payment Operations and respective Product domains' strategy, ensuring that every initiative contributes to overarching goals and targets. Balances discovery and execution to drive efficiency while fostering innovation.
  • Scale and Optimize Operations: Proactively identify and drive process improvements. You'll focus on automating manual tasks and enhancing workflows to ensure our payment routes in Japan can scale efficiently and securely.
  • Lead High-Impact Projects: Own operational projects from initial scoping to final launch. You'll assess problems, create rollout plans, conduct testing, and collaborate with stakeholders across the business to deliver solutions on time.
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively initiating and prioritising projects based on team and customer needs. Driving innovation and improvements in processes. 
  • Risk & Issue Management: As a subject-matter-expert, act as the first-level escalation point, working with cross-functional teams to mitigate risks and solve complex problems.
  • Drive Data-Informed Decisions: Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for your projects and markets, using data to measure success and guide future improvements.

Qualifications

Who You Are:

  • Experience: 3+ years in product operations, process optimization, business analysis, or a related role.
  • Problem-Solving: You have strong analytical skills and can break down complex problems into structured, actionable solutions.
  • Data-Driven Approach: Experience with SQL, Looker, or other data analysis tools is a plus.
  • Project Execution: You have proven experience managing mid-to-large-scale initiatives from start to finish.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: You are a strong communicator who can influence and align cross-functional teams.
  • Process-Driven: You have a passion for improving workflows, automation, and operational efficiency.
  • Language: You are a native Japanese speaker and fluent in English.
  • Bonus points: Experience in the payments space, ideally in FinTech and/or Japanese payment market.
