Established by the founder and chairman of a leading global private investment firm, the Aegis platform brings together market-shaping ideas, permanent growth capital, and ambitious individuals driven to solve major societal problems. We aim to build companies with the capacity for vast impact, with an initial focus on three key areas: data and automation, health and wellness, and emerging sciences and technologies.

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and proactive People Operations Manager to join our dynamic team in launching and growing the next generation of groundbreaking health tech companies. This is a full-time position with significant growth opportunities for top performers. The People Operations Manager will join as the first hire on our People Ops team and will manage the day-to-day Human Resources function, including but not limited to payroll and benefits administration, employee relations, onboarding, legal compliance, and recruiting coordination. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who will apply a consultative mindset to building a great workplace for our employees and a detail-oriented executor who will diligently oversee an HR line function. Thriving in a fast-paced startup environment, this new team member will jump into any and all HR functions and exercise a broad range of skills to continuously build stronger processes.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead Aegis’s operational and administrative HR systems and processes for performance management, talent acquisition and retention, learning and culture, and total rewards
  • Prepare the Aegis HR infrastructure to support near-term headcount expansion across our studio and portfolio companies
  • Oversee payroll, benefits, onboarding and offboarding, employment contracts, legal and regulatory compliance (with Federal, State, and local employment laws), and employee relation
  • Collaborate with company leadership to audit current HR systems for gaps and inefficiencies, lead and develop more scalable processes, and implement personnel policies and programs
  • Improve, update, and maintain all HR policies and company guidelines on an ongoing basis with timely and appropriate documentation
  • Select and manage vendors and external partners who can provide specialized services (e.g., compensation studies, HR tech stack implementation) with high acuity and competence
  • Manage end-to-end onboarding processes, including paperwork, software invitations, distribution of company property, and office logistics
  • Manage end-to-end termination processes, including paperwork, return of company property, and exit interviews
  • Resolve employee queries about HR logistics, support the team through process changes, and execute associated HR administrative responsibilities
  • Maintain positive relations with all employees and promote a supportive, high-performance culture
  • Provide a monthly report to company leadership that synthesizes budget adherence and requests, administrative metrics, and people analytics

What You'll Gain:

  • Competitive compensation package, including a strong base salary and performance-based bonus
  • Top-tier health, vision, and dental benefits
  • Monthly health and wellness reimbursement
  • Commuter benefits
  • Exciting opportunity for career development at Aegis as our Human Resources team scales

What You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or related field (PHR or SPHR certification preferred)
  • 4-5+ years’ experience in People Operations (preferably at an early to mid-stage startup)
  • Familiarity with and the ability to maneuver across Payroll/Benefits, Compliance, and TalentMindset for optimizing, improving, and streamlining processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Acute discretion and sensitivity around highly confidential information
  • Facility to communicate with senior leadership with concision and polish
  • Strong familiarity with government compliance regulations and best practices
  • Ability to diagnose and preempt challenges and strategize solutions for HR matters
  • A natural gift for teaching and training, particularly as it relates to change management and educating employees about new processes (e.g., new software or updated reimbursement processes)
  • Innate passion for working with people, fueling you to continuously learn about best practices in the Human Resources field to then translate and implement in our environment
  • Familiarity with Gusto, Expensify, Google Suite, Lever ATS, Airtable and other cloud-based payroll, benefits, and human resource management software
