About Codes Health

Codes Health is rebuilding how medical records move through the legal system. Today, plaintiff law firms rely on slow, fragmented vendors to retrieve medical records, often waiting weeks with little visibility or reliability. We're replacing that with modern infrastructure that retrieves records nationwide, navigates the complexity of every healthcare provider, and delivers organized, structured records that help firms move cases faster. Our mission is to fully automate record retrieval by building an agentic platform that continuously learns and improves across thousands of unique healthcare workflows.

We're a two-year-old, NYC-based startup backed by a $17.5M Series A, growing rapidly and tackling one of healthcare's most operationally complex problems. We're looking for our first People hire to help us scale the team and build the foundation for our next stage of growth. If you're excited by ambitious challenges, exceptional teammates, and the opportunity to make an outsized impact from day one, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

People and culture are critical to what we’re building at Codes Health, making this one of the most important hires we’ll make. As our first People hire, you’ll build the function from 0 → 1 and help us scale a small, high-performing team without losing the urgency, high standards, and culture that got us here. You’ll stay ahead of the challenges that come with rapid growth, ensuring we remain compliant while creating an environment where employees feel seen, heard, and supported.

This role is about speed and care, not process for its own sake. We want someone who prioritizes direct engagement and builds infrastructure that helps people and the business move faster. There is no existing People function to inherit—the scope is wide, the ownership is real, and you’ll report directly to the CEO.

What You'll Do
  • Own the employee experience. Lead onboarding, offboarding, and everything in between to create a strong and consistent employee experience.

  • Be a trusted resource. Handle employee relations and sensitive matters with discretion, care, and sound judgment.

  • Own People operations and compliance. Manage policies, the Codes Health Employee Handbook, visa support, and People documentation.

  • Work closely with the CEO to shape organizational design for our scale, and hire your own team over time.

  • Be in the office five days a week. NYC based or willing to relocate.

Who You Are
  • 5–8 years of HR, People Ops, or talent experience, with strong HR fundamentals and a track record of building or scaling People functions in high-growth environments.

  • Energized by building from scratch, with a strong instinct for creating infrastructure and processes that help teams move faster.

  • High standards, strong judgment, and the ability to build trust quickly, navigate hard conversations, and solve problems directly.

  • Strong program management skills and experience with modern HR systems such as Rippling, Ashby, Lattice, or similar tools.

Why Join Codes Health

You'll own a function that directly shapes what this company becomes. This is a high-visibility role with real ownership, meaningful equity, and the opportunity to grow alongside, and help lead a company scaling quickly. You'll report directly to the CEO and have the opportunity to build out your own team over time.

As our first HR hire, the people programs, hiring process, and culture practices you build in your first year will still be the backbone of Codes Health as we scale 100x. If you want a role where your judgment and your care for people directly determine how well this company holds together while it grows fast, this is it.

Compensation
  • Base salary: $100,000 - $200,000

  • Meaningful early-stage equity.

  • Healthcare, vision, and dental insurance.

  • Unlimited PTO.

Actual base pay is based on experience, skills, and qualifications and may vary from the range listed above, consistent with New York pay transparency requirements.
