Our team is looking for a Performance Test Engineer to join Planning Solutions. Our department, is responsible for our proprietary financial planning platform that lets our advisors deliver multifaceted, dynamic and comprehensive plans that uniquely showcase our conviction for financial planning with insurance and investment solutions.
What's the role?
On our team, as a Performance Test Engineer, your job is to ensure the quality of the financial planning solutions product by validating performance, scalability, and resiliency in our software solutions by designing, developing, and driving tests, frameworks, and tools.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Applies engineering standard methodologies to analyze and develop software solutions.
  • Develops software using established development and continuous integration practices.
  • Uses established monitoring and automation processes.
  • Conducts code evaluations.
  • Participates in setting team standards and best practices.
  • Ability and tenacity to take each performance issue as far as possible, often to the point of being able to suggest a fix
  • Skilled at communicating the need & approach for Performance Tuning.
  • Has experience using testing tools/ frameworks relevant to their work (e.g. Jmeter,K6,gatling, loadrunner...).
  • Build comprehensive performance reports and share them with key collaborators to identify and triage performance gaps
  • Triage performance engineering support activities as required under the instructions of senior engineers & architects
  • Ability to Develop performance scripts using k6 and Load Runner based on features/requirements/stories.
  • Capable of implementing and designing, with appropriate guidance, performance testing at various application layers (API, middleware, database, infrastructure/environment)
  • Has a strong understanding of system load and stress levels for relevant applications in the domains they support.
  • Experience with Docker/Kubernetes Performance tuning concepts
  • Provide expertise in designing load, stress, and baseline using CI/CD methodologies
  • Identify Performance environment and acceptance criteria, test environment configuration, and participate in test planning, design, and execution
  • Define requirements and identify appropriate performance testing strategies and approach
  • Define Performance Test Plan and Test Analysis Approach
  • Implement and monitor test scripts to assess functionality, reliability, performance, and quality of the service or product
  • Identify and remedy defects within the production process
  • Evaluating, Designing, and implementing automation framework
  • Monitor and fine-tune automation framework capabilities
  • Assisting fellow team members & guiding them in case of issues


Required Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of professional experience required in Performance Engineering / Testing and performance testing tools
  • 3+ years of professional experience with Java/Python/JavaScript
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with using continuous integration and deployment concepts
  • Familiarity with public cloud and associated technologies (AWS, Azure, Containerization)
  • Strong technical skills
  • Understanding of your business domain
  • Working knowledge of Git.
  • Proven ability to train and mentor others
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Deep technical ability in performance testing methodologies
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with chaos Testing tools


Nice to have:

  • Test Automation & DevOps experience
  • Experience in Agile/DevOps processes and related technologies

Pay Range - Start:
$86,450.00
Pay Range - End:
$160,550.00
Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
