About The Role

The Portfolio Operations team at General Catalyst (GC) connects our investment and operations functions to ensure portfolio companies receive exceptional support throughout the deal lifecycle. As a Portfolio Operations Analyst, you will play a critical role in supporting GC’s portfolio across all stages of the investment lifecycle. You will manage key workflows between investment and operations teams, steward internal processes, support data collection and analysis across our portfolio, and drive insights that inform firm-wide decision making. You will also contribute to building and implementing internal products and AI-enabled tools to enhance efficiency and support fund strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend weekly investment meetings and help track and document decisions across the investment pipeline
  • Enforce GC’s investment approval process and coordinate with legal and finance ahead of deal close
  • Lead quarterly outreach to our portfolio companies to collect performance metrics from CFOs and COOs
  • Manage and optimize internal tools and processes for collecting and distributing portfolio company data
  • Produce internal reports and presentation materials for fund-level portfolio reviews and investor relations
  • Conduct thematic research across segments of 100+ portfolio companies (e.g., Seed stage performance)
  • Collaborate with internal teams to implement AI and automation solutions that improve workflows
  • Support the Investor Relations team by preparing portfolio-related materials and handling LP inquiries
  • Identify and facilitate opportunities for portfolio companies to engage with GC's broader ecosystem

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of professional experience in finance, strategy, operations, or portfolio management at a VC/PE firm, investment bank, or high-growth startup
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and key startup KPIs and high growth companies
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, including modeling, scenario analysis, and complex formulas
  • Experience with Google Workspace and CRM/reporting tools like Salesforce, Sigma, or similar
  • Exposure to AI/automation tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Excel Copilot, Notion AI), with curiosity to test and implement them
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with a proven ability to juggle competing priorities
  • Familiarity with SQL or Python for data extraction and analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze performance metrics across large portfolios and present fund-level insights
  • Comfortable engaging directly with senior stakeholders (e.g., founders, CFOs, internal leadership)
  • Experience working in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and proactively improving systems or processes
  • High personal standards and a track record of delivering polished, investor-facing materials
