POSITION DESCRIPTION

Perkins Coie is searching for a Practices & Sectors Strategist to support the execution of strategic marketing and business development initiatives for assigned practice groups and industry sectors. Supporting efforts primarily tied (but not limited) to the Energy sector and Data Centers, this role partners closely with attorneys to drive client engagement, strengthen market positioning, and support revenue growth in alignment with firmwide priorities.

GENERAL PURPOSE
  • Support the execution of strategic marketing and business development initiatives for assigned practice groups and industry sectors to drive client engagement and revenue opportunities.
  • Act as a key partner to practice and sector leaders, supporting the development and implementation of plans and campaigns aligned with firmwide priorities.
  • Mentor and guide specialists and other team members to foster a high-performing, client-focused environment.
  • Collaborate across the marketing department and business services teams to deliver integrated, data-informed initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Strategic Support & Execution

  • Contribute to the development and lead the execution of annual marketing and business development plans for assigned practices and sectors.
  • Translate practice and sector goals into actionable initiatives with clear deliverables, timelines, and KPIs.
  • Provide recommendations based on market research, client feedback, and competitive intelligence.
  • Serve as an advisor to lawyers in assigned practices/sectors, offering guidance and recommendations based on market intelligence and client feedback.

Campaigns & Business Development

  • Manage the development of thought leadership, campaigns, and client-facing events in collaboration with practice and sector leadership.
  • Support pursuit strategy including pitch and proposal development, and responses to RFPs/RFIs.
  • Coordinate directory and award submissions aligned with marketing goals.

Collaboration & Integration

  • Partner with other marketing teams to deliver cohesive and effective marketing efforts.

Market Insights & Reporting

  • Monitor and summarize market trends, competitive activity, and client feedback.
  • Report on progress and outcomes of initiatives and recommend improvements.

Performance Measurement & Reporting

  • Track and report on key metrics, ROI, and progress against strategic goals.
  • Recommend adjustments to strategy based on data, feedback, and business outcomes.

Innovation

  • Adopt and promote the use of marketing technologies and tools.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance client value and operational efficiency.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
  • Be present at work during regularly scheduled working hours and as needed in the position, consistent with the firm’s attendance expectations.
SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Proven ability to support strategic planning and execution for practice groups or industry teams.
  • Brings solid business acumen and analytical skills, with the capacity to distill complex information into clear insights.
  • A collaborative communicator who builds strong working relationships across teams and levels.
  • Experienced in managing projects and contributing to team development.
  • Adaptable and proactive, with a growth mindset and a focus on continuous improvement in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • Knowledge of and/or strong interest in the energy sector and/or related areas.
EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE
  • Significant experience (8-plus years) in legal or professional services marketing, business development, or strategy, with a track record of leadership and impact.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
  • Comfortable with analyzing data, reporting tools, and marketing platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Foundation).

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision insurance, accrued paid time off plan starting at 20 days annually, personal medical and parental leave, up to 10 paid holidays, and family care benefits. This position may be filled in the following location(s). The listed compensation range reflects the typical pay for this role, though it is rare for new hires to receive an offer at the top of the range. Actual compensation may vary depending on experience, skills, market conditions, and internal equity. 

San Francisco Bay Area compensation range: $131,420 to $203,320 annually 

Colorado compensation range: $102,960 to $159,290 annually 

Illinois compensation range: $108,660 to $168,110 annually 

San Diego compensation range: $118,380 to $183,150 annually 

New York compensation range: $119,470 to $184,830 annually 

Washington state compensation range: $109,610 to $168,030 annually
